Barbarian's epic rage.

so following the requirement for the feat i raised Str to 27, with a +3 str belt for a nice 30 active. The normal Barb rage finishes at +8 str , giving 38 while raging.

I just took epic rage , it says it should raise str bonus by a final 2 but for +10 Str while raging ; but it doesn't and new epic rage gives 39 instead of 40 ... making it completely useless unless i'm missing something ?

The problem is that you cannot exceed the +12 hardcap on ability modifiers with items or feats like epic rage.

Natural attributes like epic strength feats and RDD strength bonuses can push your stats so that you can exceed the +12 cap other than that, mods alone from items or spells will not break the cap and you will be stuck at str 39 since your base is 27.

and 27 str is required to take the feat epic rage ... so it's bound to be a useless feat ?

The required strength to take the feat makes it go over the cap when you do take it... meh ... epic rage should do something else then give +2 str that the engine wont allow anyway ?

Unless theres a use to go from 38 in rage to 39 in rage the required 27 should be 25 like thundering rage ... it makes no sense ...

actually thanks , understanding the caps thing i beleive that i found a work around to maximise the effect of epic rage ; just need a +1 str instead of +3 , lower active str ( 28 instead of 30) but rage should work fully . a +1 item usually has other stuff with it then simple +3 str belt so all and all it should balance out, making the feat work ...

Correct:

27 base str +1 str item +10 Epic rage = 38 str

If you built for strength you can get over 38 str with Epic Great Strength I.

Gray Orc 20 base str +7 str progression +1 Great Strength +10 Epic Rage +2 str item = 40 str

Don't know if you want to drop a feat on great strength with a feat starved barbarian for +1 more damage, doesn't seem like a good trade.
