Background: Aidan's father, Jareth, worked in Athkatla as a shipwright, Aidan worked as an apprentice under his father in his youth. However his mother, Catherine, who was a collector of rare publications taught Aidan of reading, writing, and refinement. When Catherine died from a crippling ailment, Jareth was forced to sell what little they had to move his family out of Athkatla closer to his own kin. Yet Aidan now a man of seventeen stayed on working in the dockyards and eventually enlisted as a boatswain.

Aidan met a woman named Emma Vaughn and fell fast for the noble woman who likewise took a liking to the more common Aidan. They had plans to marry yet Aidan was called to active duty. After two years of letters back and forth and a mutany followed by ship wreck in a storm. Aidan returned to his Emma to find her married to another. Or so the story goes as he tells it. Emma Vaughn died of an ailment before he returned and her family was in ruin.

Since then Aidan has worked for a very short part as a mercenary which put an ill taste in his mouth, He's taken to adventuring to pass the time and try and make his fortune while waiting for someone to notice his potential as a writer.
