Elia Nevir: Wanderer

Unread post by Taeral »

Name: Elia Nevir
Race: Wild Elf
Age: 143
Alignment: True Neutral
Deity: Silvanus; Mielikki, Eldath, & Shaundakul
Class: Druid

Personality: Curious and reserved. Her dedication to the land can come off as a bit overbearing to those not of the druidic ways, though to those that know her it is simply a reflection of her duty. Combined with this is her penchant for exploring and discovering new things, ideas, and people. That it may be dangerous is no concern given the prospect of learning something new and unexpected.

Background: Elia's childhood was one of turmoil, abandoned as her family was killed, travelling within the reaches of the High Forest. How she survived, she is still not entirely sure. Taken in by a wandering druid, she was brought to a secluded grove where she spent much of the intervening decades learning the ways of the land and the Balance with a few others who tended to the preservation of the woods. When she came of age, she was the opportunity to decide on how she wished to continue her life, and having been on a few trips to assist some of the smaller towns of the Silver Marches, her choices was one of exploration: to better learn that which makes up the world and how all fit within the Balance. Initially living within Silverymoon for a time, her travels have now taken her to the Sword Coast, a new land ripe for discovery.

I have arrived at the city after some time of travelling a few days before; still getting used to the human civilization. Silverymoon at least had wildlife and flora within its walls, as opposed to carefully constructed 'parks'. The lands are warmer than I am used to, which is a welcome thing to be honest.

The outskirts of the city are farmland and peaceful, which is not entirely unexpected. The forests to the south though...Travelling the woods to become better acquainted with the area and so far I have noted wolves, bandits, lizards, goblins, gnolls, and orcs. Which makes the roads quite difficult to travel on a good day, notwithstanding the constant patrols of armed, city guards (I presume in any case: they bear the same crest and banded metal armor) about the roads. That worries me slightly, though from what I can tell they do so out of genuine concern for travellers and do not stray into the woods. Perhaps my mistrust may be out of place this time.

There do appear to be other Wardens about this land, though whether they are simply passing through I cannot know. One which was lessening orc numbers to which I spent some time assisting (Note: I should practice with the bow some, or leave the fighting to others). And another odd one...a shapeshifting boar outside the city's bridge.

I did manage to make a trip down south to Bereghost. That town is much more serene and a curious beacon of calm in the middle of a turbulent wilderness. I have heard Candlekeep is nearby. I should make a point to visit, as I hear their library is quite astounding if...difficult to get into. Perhaps they will accept a volume of herb lore. Hmm.

I do not know where to begin, really. Today has had so many high and low points that I become simultaneously dizzy, angry, excited, and confused just contemplating it.

Well, I suppose to start with...

I had been travelling about the region so much of late, I thought to rest for a while by the bridge outside the city; catch my breath, watch the locals and their habits. Well, the boar was here once again, running from side to side. This time, a man whom I had travelled with yet still don't know his name had been perched across the road, and thought to fire arrows at this Warden. I cannot say I blame him: boars are not native to the outskirts of the city. If it had not been a random traveller attempting to scare it off, it would have been city guardsmen killing him to preserve the peace.

This sentiment was apparently not conveyed to the Warden himself however, as he proceeded to confront the archer, leading to what was probably a good long half-hour argument with a passing guardsmen, the offending archer, including threats back and forth, and such a splitting headache for myself that I was compelled to sit down lest I lose my composure and seek out a large heavy object to smack the 'Warden' upside the head with.

In fact, as I write this I feel the headache coming back...

I would still have to say that one good thing came out of this unfortunate 'event' (if one can call it that): the Warden mentioned offhand something about a Circle. If one does exist in the area, I should perhaps seek it out, though his membership within it does not leave a good first impression as to its general makeup.

After this escapade was completed with, the archer and his friend decided to head south to patrol the woods some and I hurried along to join them. Our initial foray was into the Cloakwood, as entered this dank and decrepit mine full of umberhulks and goblinoids. By happenstance I had heard of this cave from a mining guild merchant who wished some ore from the very same area. The exploration was rather uneventful, beyond meeting up with fellow travellers and thinning the goblinoid numbers.

We continued west into the deeper reaches of the Cloakwood, confronting some rather large spiders I had only heard rumour of and entering what I can only assume is some twisting cavern system. I have not seen such a set of interlocking tunnels that so perfectly disorients oneself. Naturally, the caves themselves were inhabited with a more dangerous enemy, and after some exploration of once again was a forgotten, and taken over, ruin, we were forced to retreat back to fresh air lest we be overcome.

Upon reaching the surface, I swear I can remember another cave within the same area of the Cloakwood I knew we entered. Something...north, northwest? There were creatures inside...dark.

I don't know. One minute we were amongst the canopy of the Cloakwood, the next I was waking up within a bed in an inn with an even larger headache.

A good day, nevertheless. Enough of a picture of the region's environs to come to the initial conclusion that this entire Sword Coast lives up to its name: dangerous, potentially lethal, and at times dense as iron.
