Ched Nasad

Unread post by Rasael »

This is the Ched Nasad proof of concept area I've been making,

I'm very convinced this Underdark City can actually be made in NWN2 and done justice in the attempt. The lower level is partially walkable but my planning skills suck so I didn't think to make a building hotspot and leave the rest plausibly unwalkable / unreachable.

Right now the walkways leading to off map ends are made unwalkable and some stuff was put beyond the borders to make the city look big.

I'm going to put all the landmarks of the lower level in a central hotspot which isn't very connected to the rest of the city. Then make those connections unwalkable. Include a few residence platforms you can reach but leave most as horizon filler.

I haven't started the Top level yet but it should have a proper Temple of Lolth, some warehouses, a tavern and probably some other stuff. Oh and the major houses of Ched Nasad.

The middle level is mostly placeholder stuff to see how it looks with multiple levels. (awesome)

No issues, your walkway models were needed to make it work though! :)

Too true. I've already PM'd Ras about this, it's a very creative area and could potentially look better than Sshamath!
Quick question: Isn't Ched Nassad closer to the rest of the servers surface areas? How far is the city from the surface, is it deeper or higher than Sshamath?

Both Ched Nasad and Sshamath are considered Middledark cities.

Lorewise I believe CHed Nasad is farther from the surface and deeper - though still middledark while S'shamath is closer to the upperdark. I've shuffled the buildings and paths of the lower level around and am considering how to beautify the city before doing the top level.

For the lower level I currently have these buildings / places on the lower level:
  • Glowing Goblet
  • White Spider Company
  • Arcane Conservatory
  • Exit Lower level to upper level (via spire)
  • The House Unnamed?
  • Company of the Flickering Flame?
Not quite sure what the lore behind the House Unnamed or the Companies is.

The upper level should have these:
  • Temple of Lolth
  • House Nasadra
  • House Arvyndar
  • House Melarn
  • The Lizard's Kiss
  • Warehouses
  • Bazaar
  • Ched Nasad Gate
  • Exit upper level to lower level (via spire)

Is this where the additional UD highways could be coming in? ;) Could be cool to use Durlags for Sshamath and another separate pathway that took you close to Ched Nasad city.

Tfunke is taking a look at it to see if he can find ways to improve it further. The above statement still stands though - its possible to do justice to this City in an NWN2 depiction.

Not to detract to the sheer truth of this, but I believe you meant Rasael...?

This could be a grand addition to the server, Rasael.

What is unclear from what you have presented thus far is whether the city can be properly portrayed as built upon magically calcified spider webbing as per lore.

To bathe the city in an unearthly silver glow would be fantastic. To have it suspended in midair on solidified webbing would be utterly magnificent. Though I do realize that such may not be possible with the NWN2 toolset.

Would it be possible to utilize raised platforms (for buildings) and walkways (for transportation) on spider(like) legs supported by a foundation of solidified webbing?
