Impressions of people around the Baldur's Gate Region. - Eva

(OOC Note: This Journal is Private so please don't Metagame this.)

Well, Traveling up the Sword Coast from Athkatla by land has been undesirable. Luckily I've made the Journey unscathed. I've been sent from the Trading Company I work for in the City as to why Sea trade and ships have all but halted coming from the North. I've met a Man by the name of James who has a Relief fund going for the Gate. He told me the City is in a bad bind not only from Sea but by land as well as there has been a particularly bad Drought. I donated Generously to his cause and have agreed to help him formulate a plan on opening up a route to the Sea. He advised I meet with Captain Mealir as he sailed the Seas recently on order by the Dukes.

He must be an Impressive Captain to have such a prestige. I've have been staying at the Friendly Arms Inn as plenty of people pass through there. Most notably Plenty of Adventurer types gather at a Camp fire just near the Inn. As I sat there, A man who was very talkative of Dragons happened to be chatting people up. He introduced himself to several people as Hoihe. I decided to inquire about Mealir to the crowd gathered by the Fire. As it turns out Hoihe said he was a Navigator on board Mealir's Ship. Thankful I had met with partial success on meeting someone from his ship I inquired as to the state of the Seas and what he may of seen. But he blew me off to continue to listen to the sound of his own voice talking with his friends.

I shall be more Vigilant to meet with Mealir himself, As his apparent Navigator seems to be rather too Egotistical to help me with anything. I hope this is an isolated case and the rest of Mealir's Crew and the Captain himself aren't so rude.

What a day..

After a few trying days I've had success in meeting with Captain Mealir. For a while I was starting to worry, After waiting by the Friendly arms in one day I had met what I believe is a Fire Genasi. He stood in front of me and began said he had a Present for me. While not one to be rude I asked him what he had for me to which he presented a hand carved wooden Dragonfly. It was very good Craftsmanship so I pocketed it and that's where this man began to Exhibit Peculiar behavior. He asked if he could help me with anything. After I declined he persisted to badger at me. It was then another Fire Genasi came around and was very Rude to me and seemed to try to find out what this other one was doing 'Wasting his time with Humans' as he put it. In any case he eventually left and then a few comments left the Impression that this seemingly Helpful Fire Genasi was quite afflicted with Madness. In any case I walked to the little fire crowded with Adventurers hoping they would protect me if anything happened. Waiting at the fire proved without incident and no Captain Mealir. This went on for a few days.

It was then I heard that he was often found in the Gate itself these days. So I packed a few essentials that I needed and began the trek to the Gate. Not surprisingly the Tradeway happened to be accosted by Bandits and rather large bears and it's safe to say I had to test my speed at Running from the Dangers as a few Arrows and Angry bears seemed intent on making sure I never reached the Gate. Fortunately my Speed seemed adequate and the Bandits aim seemed to be poor and the Bears running seemed to be slow. I made it to the Chionthar river and I have to say the Bridge spanning it is an Impressive feat of Craftsmanship. In any case I crossed the outlying Farmlands and into the Gate itself. I took a walk by the Docks but with all the Ships in port I was unsure of which could be beling to Mealir. I was however directed to the Blade and Stars inn.

After making my way to the Blade and Stars a well dressed man came in who was in a Rather bright mood. He ordered a Meal and drink and sat at a Table. I approached him and he did infact introduce himself as Mealir. The name of his ship being the Whistling Wandress. I asked him on the state of affairs of the Sea. After which we had a rather lengthy discussion in that when he sailed recently he didn't really see anything out of the ordinary except for one ship of Pirates. Which in itself wasn't all that ordinary. However, while he was in Waterdeep (That Thrice cursed city.) He did say he heard something about Crews of Undead Pirates. However seeing as Mealir met nothing on the seas but actual Pirates I'm sure sailors are just being Superstitious. Though the good captain did direct me to Candlekeep as they had their own ship that did Investigating of the state of the Seas as well. I was directed to speak with an Avowed named Valquis Sanejmeh (Or Valqis Sanjemeh). Captain Mealir was a bit unsure on how to pronounce it let alone spell it.. But I don't blame him as it's a rather unusual name.

In any case the talks went considerably better than with Hoihe. Captain Mealir I find to be a rather Polite and Well mannered man. After he Finished his meal he departed. At least the Talks have been somewhat helpful. But it seems I have more to follow up on regarding the state of things.
