Attacking NPC's without a DM present...?

Unread post by LISA100595 »

Just wondering if there is something in the rules about attacking or killing NPC's without a DM present? IE: Gaurds etc.
Lady Elvina Aira-S'efarro - The Order of the Silver Rose
Salaria - Bounty Hunter half-sister of Darius Brothers
Angelina Northstar - Holy Warrior of Tyr / Knight of the Silver Rose
Matilda Stonehold - Honorable Sheild Dwarf
Loriah Swift - Morninglord of Lathander

Generally the friendly NPCs are set to invulnerable or immortal, and will not die when you attack them. Attacking friendly NPCs is a bad idea for this reason.

Because friendly NPC attacks are only very rarely born of a solid roleplay reason, it is also generally considered metagaming, which is against the rules. Most people who attack non-hostile NPCs do it out of boredom, or just to see what will happen if they do.

Because DMs are required to push forward NPC-related server plots, you'll want a DM there to oversee the attack in any case--assuming you want the NPC's death to be meaningful, or even acknowledged.
