Background:
Hilga was born the first daughter of the third wife of Frithjof, Chieftain of the Winterfang tribe of High Moor. She was a precocious child and delighted her father very much, despite his constant ill health. Still, being born a girl and to the third of five wives of the chieftain did not permit her much standing outside of her father's amusement.
Frithjof had long wanted a return to his people's ancestral homelands and blamed the warmer damp climate of the moor for his health. In Hilga's bright intelligent nature, Frithjof saw an opportunity. He sent her as a adolescent to train under the Skald's of the Battesong tribe, most girls would never be considered for such an education, but Frithjof thought of the Battlesong as nothing but women anyways, with their constant concern for such trivial arts.
Hilga took this as a personal pledge, to see her education as that her personal crusade to help her father. She learned, with much joy, the use of musical instruments and from their playing, the use of the written note. The Old Skald's of Battlelsong came to see the aptitude of this teenage girl, pushing her on to learn remedial reading, writing, poetry and language arts.
It was there that her life would make an abrupt turn and irrevocably change the course of her tribes future.......
