Background: Shyn's parents where peaceful folk making an honest living in a human community in the northland of Damara. Living under the Great Glacier, they were poor but happy. In an attempt to hide their “taint” they removed their horns and hid their true origins. When Shyn was born, they did the same for her. To her, she is human as her parents raised her. Her true nature would be unveiled to her later.
When Shyn was but 8 years old, the village was raided by barbarians. They razzed the village and killed most, enslaved the rest. Shyn was one of those enslaved. At eight years old, everything she knew was up-ended. The barbarians treated her with disdain knowing her true nature. Her enslavement was filled with hard work, long hours, and regular beatings for the simplest of infractions. She would cry herself to sleep every night. This went on for five years.
At 13, Shyn was to be given to the brother of the barbarian clan chief as a wife. She was devastated and wanted to kill herself. She was tied up and caged in a tent to prevent her from harming herself until the wedding. All hope lost, she wept constantly.
On one moonless night, Shyn was awoken by a scuffle outside her tent. She at first thought she was dreaming and tried to go back to sleep. Then, a figure entered the tent. Immediately she was afraid, thinking the worst is to come. “Shhhh, my little one” was the first words she heard from her visitor. He held up his hand and a small flame burst alight and floated off to light the entire tent. At this she could now see her visitor and was struck by his beauty. Fair and perfect skin, ice blue eyes, white, silver laced robes, and a warm smile greeted her. For a moment she felt...peace. “It is time for us to leave my child,” was the visitor's next comment. She eagerly nodded her head knowing this man must be better than being left here. With a twist of his wrist, her bonds fell to the ground. He held out his hand and she was drawn to it like a mosquito to a flame. Her hand touched his and a bright light enveloped them both, the intensity of which caused her to pass out.
When Shyn awoke, she was lying on a feather bed with pillows and a quilted bed cover. She was for the first time since she could remember warm. She snuggled up tight and rested thinking this must be a dream. Upon realizing this is no dream, Shyn bolted from the unfamiliar warmth with a start. Focusing more clearly she realized she was in some kind of bedroom. Looking down at her dress, she was clothed in a warm frock. Confused and scared she bolted for the door as someone was entering.
Facing the scared child, the elven woman smiled. Carrying a tray she said, “Good morning love, come. You must eat. I am Ilenviel.” “Whe...Where am I,” Shyn asked. “In the Master's home. All will be revealed to you soon. Eat first,” replied the kindly elf maiden. Although she couldn't explain why, she was comforted by Ilenviel's words. So, she ate realizing how hungry she was. The elf simply smiled watching her devour the food in front of her. “Darling, when are ready come outside, ok?” All Shyn could do, with her mouth full of food, was to nod her head. The elf seemed to float out of the room.
When Shyn developed the courage, she edged herself out of the comfort of the room into the hallway. It went straight for some time, doors on each side, ending in stairs. She carefully descended not knowing what to expect. Her descent relieved an ornate room decorated in silver and warm woods. The room seemed to have a glow all its own. There were no other visible signs of light from either fire nor candle. At the base of the stairs her eyes fell upon the man she saw earlier. Dressed is a silver brocaded coat and pants, he greeted her, “Ah, Shyn, you are awake and no longer hungry I trust?” “Who are you, was her only reply.” With a warm and generous smile he replied, I am Kevath Silverwing.” You know my name,” more of a statement from Shyn then a question. “Yes. “I've known you since you were born actually,” he admitted. “Why am I here?” “My dear, you are here to live. To have the life you deserve,” was the reply.
From then, Kevath raised and trained Shyn as his own daughter. She experienced real love again and was enthralled with Kevath. In time, Kevath revealed to Shyn his true nature as a Silver Dragon. He trained her in the arts of the silverwing clan of dragons and entrusted to her some of his power.
When Shyn turned 20, Kevath sent her out to experience the world of men, elf, gnome, and hin. He handed her a neatly folded and sealed parchment (sealed in silver with the Silverwing mark). “Travel to the sword coast and find one called White. He will help you, my child.” Before she departs he gives her a silver inlaid long bow of great strength and power. “This, my child, will protect you and others from the evils you will encounter. Use it wisely,” was his only command.
Goals: To seek out her destiny as her mentor gave her.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: Kevath is a silver dragon and has adopted this tiefling girl based on a prophecy that one day the world of good would be saved by one tainted of the abyss. He saw this young tiefling as way to fulfill the prophecy. The parchment is a plea from Kelvath, Silver Dragon of the Silverwing Clan, to take in his adopted daughter and train her in the ways of the three. She has a destiny to be fulfilled.
