Amberly Hall

Unread post by Lyrewyn »

First Name: Amberly (Amelia)
Last Name: Hall (Reyes)

Appearance:
Race: Human
Age: 24
Height 64in(162cm)
Weight: 110
Eyes: Hunter Green
Hair: Chestnut Red
Facial Hair Style: N/A

Personality Profile:
General Health:
She’s slightly malnourished, making her a bit on the thin side. Her hands are soft, indicating her lack of manual labor experience. If she’s not wearing make-up, her face is very pale.
Deity: Helm.
Not really a devout worshipper. He's just the Deity she grew up with. She hasn’t sent a prayer to Helm in years. She wouldn’t even know how it would go, nor is she aware if there is a proper procedure. She’s not a worshipper and doesn’t rely on faith as of when this biography is written, but if someone asked her who she worshipped, Helm is still going to be the first thought in her head.
Initial Alignment:
Neutral. Easily developed to swing in any direction depending on who she interacts with.
Profession:
Looking for work.
Base Class & Proposed Development:
Base class is rogue. Closest I could do to a commoner class. No plans for a character sheet, I plan on just taking feats that make sense to her current development. Not going to be played with levelling up in mind. If she gets into combat, she'll probably die.
Habits/Hobbies:
Singing, trying to learn how to play the flute, and writing. She also has a habit of talking a lot once she’s gotten started, and sometimes can’t help but make up facts if none currently exist. She loves the smell of tobacco, though rarely actually participates in the practice of smoking.
Languages:
She is fluent at the Common tongue and Halfling. She can understand Alzhedo and Cormanthan to an extent, but cannot actually speak any of them very well. Mechanically she can also understand Cant but I'll choose to play it as she can't, unless of course someone teaches it to her.
Weapon of Choice:
None.

Background (Short Summary):
Amelia Reyes (1325 – Current) was born to Jacob and Elena Reyes, and is a Tethyrian refugee. She came to Baldur’s Gate in 1348 to escape the civil war that has intensified after the Ten Black Days of Eleint. Her family was one that the civil war directly affected, and many were killed in the chaos due to misunderstanding and misfortune. The remainder of the Reyes family including herself split up and took separate paths throughout Faerûn after losing the protection of the merchant Fadil Nejem.

During her childhood, she was raised the third child born in a farm 50 miles west of Brost, bordering the Wealdath Forest. She lived a relatively happy childhood, with two older siblings and four younger ones to look after. Even beyond her family she was not lacking in friends. There were the children of the workers who were contracted by the Reyes family as well as a small Hin community to get to know whenever she visited town. It was an older pipe-smoking Hin named Milo Dale who got her hooked on stories, as well as the smell of tobacco.

Things changed by the time Amelia turned nine, however. King Alemander had begun his draconian rule after prince Rythan had been killed, and the Reyes family did not come out unscathe. Higher taxes were being demanded from people far above her father’s station, who soon had to cut the pay of his workers or outright letting them go, which led to some terse conversations. The family farm went into decline, but Jacob and Elena continued to maintain a proud image despite it. This would reflect negatively on their image by people who were had less than they had.

It would still be a few years before she would realize that some of the things the children she grew up with would say about her family were meant to be insults. At the age of sixteen, she would begin to notice the complete absence of elves visiting the towns anymore. Many of her Hin acquaintances had moved on to bigger cities, and a big source of her comfort, Milo, had passed away. As Tethyr continued to remain oppressed, fortunes continued to sink and resentment continued to simmer. The Reyes family may not have had any actual noble ties, but considering they could afford to live comfortably, many began to see them as the people on the higher rung of the ladder.

It was perhaps fortunate at this time the Calishite merchant Fadil Nejem began to deal with Jacob. Despite his operation being based in Murann, he paid a personal visit to the farm to discuss business in person. His sheer charisma had made Jacob feel suspicious of the deal, but due to Fadil’s tenacity and insistence, Jacob tentatively agreed to a deal. On top of their farm work, they would begin to exploit the Small Teeth Mountains directly north of them for iron to make pots and pans. Despite the business dealings having been long since concluded, Fadil continued to visit the family over the years, acting the part of a friend. Jacob could not help but feel they were being scammed somehow, but the new business was flourishing.

In 1347 during Eleint the Reyes family were forced to flee. The mother and father were murdered at the front of their very own estate, and were it not for Joseph, Amelia’s older brother, able to keep his composure, the rest of the family would have fallen to the mob’s wrath as well. The last she saw of her big brother was when they split up so he could draw attention away from their forest paths. Using long abandoned elven trails, Amelia, with her older sister Jasmine led the remainder of their family to Murann, where they could seek shelter with Fadil. The merchant seemed to refuse, but the remainder of the Reyes family soon found themselves with shelter and time to mourn for the next couple of months.

It is unclear yet what made the family abandon their surname and go in different directions throughout the world. What is clear though is that Amelia herself has all but disappeared, replaced by a girl in her early twenties named Amberly. She was last seen staking out a caravan due North before disappearing.

Goals:
Highly open-ended, she basically wants what most people want. A purpose. That may change day to day depending on the circumstance, and in Amberly’s particular case, the people she ends up socializing with. She’s still young – none of her views are set in stone even if she thinks they are.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
I’d like to play this ‘hardcore,’ to see if playing this way can actually work in BGTSCC. By work I mean if it’s something that becomes enjoyable for me, and more importantly, for everyone else. I loved my interactions with Tamara, whom I felt was more of a character because of the player’s OOC decisions. I want to see if I can do something similar.

Another inspiration would have been Abby Winters, whom I could only read about.

Diary here.
My ship plowed through the storm.
Looking into the waves, I grew dizzy,
for I glimpsed the chasm between myself & the infinite.
