Empty houses in Baldur's Gate

Unread post by silverias »

Just wondering... What is the intended purpose of the houses in Baldur's Gate? I know that some of them have NPCs and loot, presumably designed for thieving characters, but what about the empty ones? Would it be acceptable to use these as a stand-in for player housing, at least as far as RP is concerned?

I understand that there are pitfalls involved with actual player housing, and it is essentially redundant, but RP wise it doesn't make sense for all characters to have to live in an inn. The area doesn't have to have a special name or restricted access to use it now and then for RP purposes, just like the inn rooms.

You could possibly roleplay living inside a random house in Baldur's Gate, as it is true it doesn't make sense to stay in an inn forever.

Pretty sure these houses have been made for this purpose. Along with DM events.

Though, you can't really claim to 'possess' a house area. But you can probably roleplay in it with your character's friends if you plan a party or something.

I guess you could also be 'renting' one. You may want to ask a DM ingame about it. (-;

Those houses are all peopled, I believe. There may not be NPCs in them every time, every hour; but eventually there will be someone inside.

At least that's what I've seen happen.

Tfunke would be the one to ask though. He designed the revamped BG.
