Background: Cameron is the son of a small time pirate, "Cornelius the Crimson" and a barmaid named Rebecca. The couple had settled in the city of Luskan. His mother died young due to disease and his father who had at least partially retired went back out on the sea to earn a living. The first two years were quite successful with Cornelius excelling at his trade and becoming first mate on the ship and crew he had joined. Unfortunately in the third year of Cornelius' renewed pirating career he would die on the ocean. Cameron never learned the cause, but after a year of not hearing from his father a letter and package came from a deckhand who had been close to Cornelius. The letter was brief but simply said that Cornelius had passed, the package held some gold.
Cam was now forced to fend for himself and began poaching in the woods outside of Luskan. He excelled at this until the age of 16 when he was caught by some forest wardens. Cam was surprised to find that the Wardens had actually been pursuing him for over a year. They were so impressed when they discovered that their quarry was so young and had become so adept at using the land to his advantage that they offered to train him if he agreed that upon the completion of his apprenticeship he joined the Luskan army as a scout. Cameron agreed and found his calling in scouting and counter - scouting; silently observing the enemy encampments or formations, reporting locations back to mobile command posts or the city, lying in wait for a scout to approach his position then dropping from the trees or jumping from the foliage and capturing his opponent.
Cameron wasn't a veteran of any one campaign but rather smaller military and law enforcement actions. The occasional Orc tribe wandering into Luskan territory, the odd goblin tribe setting up shop in various caves, and Cam's favorite routing out bandits from the wilderness. He enjoyed making his home a safer place, and the military let their soldiers and scouts keep the loot from these bandit sweeps, this is how Cameron came to discover kukris.
By 25 Cameron was released from his service to the military and took up work as a freelance scout and tracker often being employed by the Luskan Captains for various odd jobs, tracking a fugitive, assisting on hunting trips and the like. Eventually Cameron would meet his wife Jessie. Cameron and his wife had settled in a small cabin outside the city of Luskan and had a daughter, Violet. In Cameron's mind they all lived happily till around his daughter's 3rd birthday. He returned home after two days of assisting in a hunting trip for one of the High Captains to find the house was empty. Rarely did Jessie and Violet travel into the city alone, it could be a dangerous place and the road to it could also be treacherous. Cameron found a note pinned to the inside of the door. The ink was smudged in some places but still legible and the handwriting was his wife's.
"Dear Cam,
Violet and I are leaving, please do not try to follow us. It will be better for everyone and perhaps more safe. I know you love us both and we love you too. Stay safe Cam, try and live your life without us.
Sincerely,
Jess"
Cameron's head was spinning, he didn't understand what was going on. This must be some sort of mistake why would they leave? What had happened? He began searching the house frantically sure this must be some sort of sick prank. He tore through their small home convinced they must be in a closet or behind a dresser, perhaps under the bed! But nothing, he began ripping drawers out of the dressers in a rage. Then he noticed they had taken none of their clothes...surely they could not leave without packing their clothes. He went back through the house taking inventory of their belongings, nothing was gone. Now even more confused he sat at the kitchen table and pondered, "What does this mean?" "They must have been kidnapped!" Cameron concluded that his wife had been forced to write the letter and someone had taken them, so began his mission to recover his wife and child. He left that night, his packed his belongings and gear and worked his way from town to town city to city desperate for clues and leads on the location of his family.
Goals:Find his wife and child, or at least discover what has become of them.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
His wife and daughter may not have been kidnapped Cameron just concluded that's what must have happened. The reality of it may have just been that they left, or perhaps something more sinister.
Cameron's family life was not as rosy as he would like to remember. Jessie and Cameron had both begun to engage in affairs. Cameron had begun seeing a moonelf pirate named Lilith and Jessie had been seeing an affluent merchant's son. Cameron discovered this when he began searching for his family but he's taken no action against the young man since it appeared he had no hand in their disappearance.

LORD! punish me no more with your anger; in your wrath do not chastise me!
Your arrows have sunk deep in me;
your hand has come down upon me.
My flesh is afflicted because of your anger;
my frame aches because of my sin,
a burden beyond my strength.
