Sending - Question: Mechanics or Lore?

Unread post by Hoihe »

Ahoy!

To cast Sending to Hoihe, you need to write:

Hoihe Dacino message: blabla.

And that makes perfect sense, however!

Aliases.

Lore-wise, do you need to know the full name/real name of a person to contact them?

Let's say we have a person who doesn't use his/her real name for various reasons, but the one who would cast a Sending to them knows them decently, even knowing their past.

Would such a person be able to be contacted with a Sending by someone who only knows their alias, but knows them decently? Or does it have to be the real name?

Also, if it doesn't have to be the real name, just something that the person associates with the target...

What's the ruling on the Sending command?

Is it OOC or IC?

If it's IC, can you RP that you say their alias while you OOCly say their IG name to make the script fire off? Or would that be considered metagaming?

Example:

Is the following against the rules?

Bob meets Andras, but Andras introduces herself as Minstril. Bob gets to know Andras as Minstril, learns that she is a minstrel and where she comes from, her past and other sensitive information.

Bob is a wizard, and needs Minstrel's advice for she's a skilled minstrel.

Andras's IG name is Andras, but she only calls herself Minstril.

Bob casts sending, and types:

" Andras message: Minstril, Can you please come and meet me at the Belching Dragon? I need your insight on this ancient song."

Bob's player types Andras message as part of an OOC mechanic, giving an OOC comment to everyone around him that ((Bob's not saying Andras Message, he's saying Minstril message. The script requires me to type the character's screen name.))

Does Bob break the rules by doing so, metagaming Minstril's real name for the sake of mechanics?

Or does Bob even Godmod, allowing his character to contact Minstril, who he knows well, despite not knowing her real name?

Don't overthink it. If you know the person you can send a sending. Regardless if you know their 'true' name or not. If you know someone by a nickname, than that is their true name by which you know them.
You contact a particular creature with which you are familiar and send a short message of twenty-five words or less to the subject. The subject recognizes you if it knows you.
Nowhere does it say that you have to now their 'true name'.

Doubt common mortals can even easily know the "True Name" of another mortal.

Thanks, was worried of maybe "Metagaming" when going on a workaround with a few alias'd people.
