Koren

Unread post by masterkoren »

First Name: Koren
Last Name: Norsemann
Ingame name: Koren

Appearance:
The first thing most people notice first about Koren are his striking golden eyes. They are faintly luminous which is especially noticable in low light. He is a handsome man by most standards and could be mistook for a "pretty-boy" if it weren't for his ragged blonde mane, solid build, and nature-worn attire. He wears hardened cloth, leather, and ringmail armor cobbled together in a way that suits his combat style and comforts. He also carries a big greatsword at all times.

Race: Aasimar - Sion of Humanity (Generally speaking he can pass as a Human. He counts as both an Outsider and a Human for detection purposes.)
Age: 76 (late teens to early 20s by Human standards)
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 220lbs
Build: Athletic/Muscular
Hair: Long blonde
Facial Hair Style: Cleanshaven
Eyes: Golden (slightly luminous)

Personality Profile:
Koren is a brash, boisterous, fun-loving man of the sword. He is always looking for trouble to get into and people to help along the way. Life to him is one big adventure - and he's not satisfied if he's not in the thick of it all. He naturally gravitates towards those in need and loves nothing more than thwarting loathsome villains in exhilirating combat. Despite his 'barbarian' traits, Koren is quite well spoken and shows solid leadership traits. He is honorable to all and fiercely loyal to his allies. Koren values honesty, strength, loyalty, and courage and strives to personally own those traits.

Even in combat, he is quite lively and energetic. But within his heart is an unbridled rage that, when released, transforms Koren into a terrifying killing machine. A whirling, roaring swarm of ferocious blows awaits any foe unfortunate enough to fall victim to this rage. While at first it was uncontrollable as a child, this 'power' has slowly become a reliable force that he can control and unleash on will; and it only gets stronger and more reliable as he continues to practice. He describes it as 'the beast within' at times, having little understanding of his true primal power.

General Health:
Exceptional health. Considered to be very hardy, well fed, and no health concerns.

Deity:
Llira.

Initial Alignment:
Chaotic Good

Profession:
Adventurer. Seeks to become a smith one day.

Base Class & Proposed Development:
Planned Route:
20 Barbarian
10 Frenzied Bezerker (Possible)

Habits:
He tends to be overtly flirtatious to women without realizing it.
He speaks quite loud, especially when excited.

Hobbies:
Conflict: From hunting beasts to fighting bandits to sending undead back to the grave - he loves battle. He doesn't go around starting fights with just anyone he sees (in fact, he tends to use intimidation to avoid a needless altercation) - he searches for conflict where his sword and efforts will do good.

Helping others: Koren is drawn to those in need naturally. It is very hard for him to say no to anyone in need. If he is unable to help, he often feels a great sorrow in his heart that can bother him for days.

Nature. Koren has a strong connection to the natural world even if he isn't fully aware of it. He ran away from his home as a child into the wilderness, and the wilderness accepted him as one of its children. He enjoys being out in the thick of the wild, where he is free and at peace. In urban environments, he can navigate just fine but feels antsy and can even be outright hostile.

Languages:
Common, Elven, Celestial (is unaware that he knows it).

Weapon of Choice:
Greatsword.

Background:
The exact details of Koren's birth and earliest childhood are not known. What is known is simple: he was found by altruistic magic-studying Sun Elves as an infant and raised to be their own. They realized quickly that he was no human child, as his childhood lasted entirely too long. He bonded with their natural born daughter Minateth, or just Mina.

Educating the lad seemed an impossible task. He had no interest in learning, only an interest in causing trouble and starting fights. He eventually ran away from his foster parents and lived as a street urchin. He lived a life of evading guards, beating other kids for scraps, and frequent visits to the city orphanage when he was caught.

At some point, the child decided that living as a street urchin was, for lack of any other term, boring. He left the city (to which he still doesn't remember the name of) and vanished into the wilderness. The wilderness seemingly took him in as its own child, and he became an almost feral creature. He ended up in the Icewind Dale region at some point in his life and made his home there, in the frozen wilderness. The Frozen North made him strong, hardy, and resourceful.

While in Icewind Dale, the young lad who could wrestle a bear to the ground and sleep outside in a blizzard and not be phased gained some level of fame amongst the denizens of the Ten Towns. He wasn't welcome in most towns because of his wild reputation, but those that did often found themselves never wanting for pelts or other resources and they wouldn't have to pay gold for them. A small community of Lliirans living in the frozen dale welcomed Koren into their society and taught him their ways of freedom, liberty, and joy.

As Koren began to mature into an adult, he felt an insatiable urge to travel the world in search of something, but he just didn't know what. He continues that search to this day, enjoying life to its fullest as he goes. While he may cause trouble at times, he usually brings more good than he does bad. He has a knack for dealing with bandits and beasts whilst asking no rewards except for food or shelter on occasion. Riches do not motivate him, merely the thrill of it all and the good feeling he gets for helping others.

He often finds himself lost in deep thought about who he is. Why are his eyes golden? Why did his childhood friends all grow up when he remained a child? Who are his real parents? Why does fighting come as natural to him as breathing?

Goals:
He travels the world with unquenchable wanderlust. The root of his travels are simple - deep down he wants to learn more about who he really is and who his parents were. He also wants to have as much fun as possible along the way.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
Koren does not know his parents nor his true heritage. The fact that he is an Aasimar is completely unknown to him, and as a Sion of Humanity it is largely unknown to anyone who would encounter him. Those with the ability to detect outsiders or who are knowledgable of Aasimar or outsiders in general may be able to identify him. His eyes are definitely a conversation piece too - humans normally don't have glowing golden eyes. His true heritage is known to me, the author, but I'm not ready to reveal that just yet ;)

He doesn't like the nobility very much. He can be outright abrasive to nobles (and even royalty) if they rub him the wrong way. This is especially true if encountered within a civilized setting, where he can already be uncomfortable and irritable.

Koren longs to be a smith. He takes great pride in his martial skill, and wishes to craft the perfect weapon for himself one day.

His eyes are a key trait for his character. They are beautiful, mysterious, and even terrifying depending on the situation. Koren's gazes and 'eye' expressions are much 'louder' than normal.

He speaks Elvish very well.

He can understand Celestial but he does not know that he can (he's never heard it).

He's illiterate, though he can somewhat understand maps and anything with lots of pictures well enough.
