Background
As a toddler Xiro was left on the steps of an Ilmatari monastery, so his origins are unknown even to himself. His early years were spent learning of the tenets, and the faith of the Ilmatari. The Disciples caring for the fair amount of children that were there. And while it was not exactly common, an orphan showed up to the monastery often enough to not be surprising. Xiro was a slightly special case however as he grew up, he proved to be a patient as well as a disciple. Night terrors and visions of monsters, demons and other horrors visited the young boy often, sending him into a spiral of sleepless, screaming nights, restless evenings and a general fear of closing his eyes. The sporadic bouts of insomnia would last many years for the boy, each one lasting months. Between the hypertension, and the self inflicted injury due to both sleep deprived accidents, and reaction to the nightmares themselves, Xiro spent most of his younger years in the monastery infirmary.

As he grew older, Xiro learned to focus his mind against the visions thanks to the teachings of the Ilmatari, and while the visions of carnage, of fiends, and devils never quite left him he was able to at least begin to live a normal life. It was because of this he developed more interest than fear at his nightmares and began to research both them, and the somewhat unique innate abilities that awoke in him during his teenage years. His need to know more as he learned more eventually took him away from his monastery home, with a vow to return. His travels took him on the road to anywhere and everywhere it was said arcane, divine, supernatural, and other more fiendish types of magical knowledge were kept.

Xiro's travels took him eventually to the lands of Thay seeking knowledge and information. It took the young man more than a little effort to work his way into favor with those that could assist him but he was able to learn much of what he sought, most importantly a name for what he was, a warlock. While little is known about his quick and frantic exit from those lands, there are more than a few Thayans that seek the young warlock in the wake of whatever transpired there.

Xiro now travels the lands of the sword coast, knowing a lot more about himself and the Eldritch powers that reside in him. His need to know more about the abomination he feels he is, conflicting constantly with his desire to be a beacon to the weak, injured, sick, poor, and the subjugated. His shame keeps him from speaking about his true nature even to his closest allies letting many of them believe he is a talented sorcerer. And while he hesitates to use his innate abilities (preferring to use a crossbow in battle) he recognizes that he is at his best in combat when he lets himself fall into the chaotic, and evil abilities that tear at everything he strives to be. The ingrained desire for perseverance and self endurance taught to him by the Ilmatari monks, pushing him to believe he can beat the infernal taint in his soul. His every day, a walk on the edge of ruin, or concession of the great power he has inherited.

Goals: To be a good Ilmatari, learn of his past, and understand the full meaning behind his innate ability.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts
1) The revelation of the creature or details behind his inherited pact.
2) Thayans seek Xiro in connection to a number of high profile deaths that occurred during his stay in their lands. (For this reason, Xiro is understandably nervous around anyone who appears to be a red wizard)
3) Obviously any family members still living returning to find him since he is an orphan. This includes the (possibly) living ancestor that created the original pact.
