The Second Silver Shield Tournament of Arms (Saturday 11/2)
The event will be at NOON PST or 3 PM EDT or 1900 GMT
Posters are tacked to boards around Baldur's Gate, The Friendly Arms Inn and Beregost decorated with scrolling silver leafing along the edges.
"The Silver Shield is promoting its second tournament of arms open to all for participation. The tournament will be a test of martial combat and will award 20,000 coin to the winner of the experts bracket and 10,000 to the skilled bracket champion, and a 5,000 coin reward to the novice bracket. The Shield hopes to continue fostering a spirit of healthy competition to improve the skills of all the coasts defenders and hope that the tournament will see denizens of the elven nations, the dwarves of the north and members of the knightly orders.
The event will be held at the arena in the farmlands just north of Baldur's Gate. This promises to be a lively event so we welcome one and all to attend the festivities as spectators of this fine event!"
The poster goes on to list the details of the exact contest rules.
((This event will be fought to the down and will allow melee and archery attacks only. To make the event open to those with magical talents but in the interest of keeping things fair 3 preparatory spells, scrolls, potions or abilities will be allowed before the fight. As long as you can apply the effect to yourself it is allowed. Effects that have a DIRECTLY hostile effect are NOT allowed such as Elemental Shield and Song of Requiem as examples this also includes Shapeshifting as a dragon or mound of earth do not make for a healthy spirit of competition any more than a bard blasting the landscape with requiem. No spells, potions, on use items or scrolls will be allowed after the start of the fight but natural abilities OTHER than the ones I just mentioned will be allowed during the fight. Bardic inspirations are included in this.
Expert Bracket is 21 and over
Skilled Bracket is 10-20
Novice Bracket is 1-10

A small flyer is found below many of the posters.
"A mages tournament is also being arranged. However a suitable site for the event must be found as the Fist would not take kindly to powerful spells being blasted about the farmlands. Once a suitable location and rules have been decided I will have the tournament in short order. The mages tournament will not have brackets and will be open to anyone. The only spells forbade will be ethereal and sanctuary magic's as they will server little purpose and drag the event out when one party or another decides to retreat to safety for one reason or another. Physical combat will be allowed as it will likely prove somewhat ineffective given the rules of the tournament.
Please leave any correspondence concerning the planning of this event with Bentley for Valkrun Anatox."

A second larger flyer is found below all of the posters.
"The Gilded Knight has generously offered to help fund this tournament and the prize money for each bracket has been doubled.
The Experts champion will now receive 40,000 coin
The Skilled champion will receive 20,000 coin
The Novice champion will receive 10,000 coin
The company has even been so kind as to offer all competitors a 5% discount on their next purchase from the Gilded Knight! Please thank Johan for his honorable and kindly contribution to this event!"

((Hips is completely allowed though many people were unhappy about how boring HIPS on HIPS battles and HIPS ranged characters exploiting this allowance. If anyone has a suggestion for a minor update to the rules to level out this particular area of unease I would love to hear it in a PM.))

// Limit it to being allowed to hips only three times, including preparations?

// Alternatively forbid HiPS in the melee tournament and make a third tournament where absolutely everything is allowed.

// If 3 buffs are allowed, 3 HiPS sounds reasonable, and would certainly stop elongated battles where neither side can see the other

//The HiPS reduction (eventually 4x) certainly worked as a spectacle as no battle lasted that long. And I don't say that simply because Tommy showed how powerful a Xbow Sniper is at level 20.
Monty should have been there to see why a high AB works...

Re: The Second Silver Shield Tournament of Arms (Saturday 11
Word of the tournament results spreads through out the Gate and its surrounding lands. The former tournament champion Laya Jyne made it to the final round again but was displaced as the tournament champion by Mealier in the final match. A hin by the name of Tommy was able to easily seize the skilled bracket with his exceptional skill with the crossbow. There were a few exhibition matches as well though by the time these were held many spectators head left the arena.
The total prizes of 40,000 and 30,000 were paid out to each of the champions and an overwhelmingly positive sense of morale pervaded the event. The hostilities and troubles of the first tournament gave way to a lively competitive vibe shared by almost all in attendance. Other than one filthy orc which was slain to prevent it from harming the wounded contestants after their matches.
