Street preparations for the trial

Unread post by Servin »

A masked shady character, under an invisibility spell scouts the streets of Sshamath looking for ideal candidates to perform their task. Their target are slave race messengers, kobolds, goblins and alike always looking for some change to make a living on the streets.

Once spotted and after making sure they're alone, the character drops the invisibility and attracts them near to offer them a job:

- I have a simple task to offer that would keep you off the streets for a year. Serve me and gold shall be yours.

If there is an agreement, the character continues.

- You will go and collect rocks to fill in crates of this size (the crate the character points to in the corner is of 30x30x25 cm in dimensions). You will then bring the crates in four days time (the day of the trial of the right time) to the front of the magistrates court building, where an angry crowd will gather. For every crate you bring, you will receive 15 gold coins, but I will pay no more than for 40 crates. You are advised to collect more however because there are more rewards...

The court will issue a verdict on three prisoners and the angry mob outside will require stones to throw at the convicts. They need to be of the right size, more less like of my fist
- shows them their fist - You will distribute the stones to the crowd for free. Make sure there is plenty available for everyone and there are no areas without them.

For every prisoner the mob knocks out or kills, you will receive an extra of 1500 gold coins. Knock or kill all three and I will like the show, you will be paid 6000 gold coins.

You are advised to get help from your friends. It is also wise to employ a gifted bard to... 'encourage'... the crowd. I am sure shouting things like 'even us, ilbith, hate you' or 'war hero turned traitor' will get you some effect.

If the convicts will be found innocent, you will still be paid for the crates. But should you fail me in any way, I will come and execute you myself!

If the guards quiz you about the crates, tell them you trade those with the duergar. If they continue asking, tell them this is what they (duergars) eat, isn't it?

Do not throw stones at the convicts yourself if no-one else is throwing, else you might get killed. Your main role is to provide the stones. This is a drow matter.

Is everything clear?

There is a notice of a raising eyebrow from behind the mask. The individual then asks what the messenger needs to do, to be sure and makes sure they got the time and date right. If the messenger appears to be too daft, the search continues, until the right candidate is found or there is too much commotion that might blow the individual's cover.

Ussta poor half-sister. Killed by kobolds... - thought the individual.

// I got a few questions with regards what's this all about. To clear up the confusion, when the sentence is passed and it's to no benefit to the accused, they have this opportunity to hear feedback from the citizens of the city on their way back to the prison or the chop block. If the social mood is against the sentenced (and it seems to be, due to the DM response to the propaganda), this is often expressed by spitting and throwing rotten tomatoes, sometimes stones. Those lackeys (messengers) are to provide the right props just for this event.

// By no means is this starting a riot or unrest within the city. The crowds attention will be directed purely to the sentenced (or not) and not the government. This is a natural event following the sentence of a court and some cities even organise some extra bits just for this time.

// Also please notice that the DMs feedback clearly states that the Lolthite faithful are in the uproar against the three and not the conclave. With Charnag Maelthra turning a blind eye on the crowd's murders, this should further portray the conclave as outside the boundaries of the crowd's grief. This one is but an assumption though.
