Sneaks without night vision

Unread post by Baboonicorn »

When playing a human rogue (or other sneaking class), how do you get around the lack of night vision? There are parts of the world (e.g. Cloakwood mines) where I can't see where I'm going at all and in reality he would have plummeted to his death long ago.

Carrying a torch etc is supposed to increase detection chance, so I've ruled that out - at any rate, even if there is no mechanical effect, it seems frankly ridiculous to be holding a lantern while trying to remain unseen in a dark dungeon.

Is the only alternative to take shadowdancer or another class that grants darkvision? Assassins should get the low light vision spell I think, but that's not in game.

Potions or scrolls of low light visions. They sometimes drop. I would add them to the shops too, if they are not already there.
But, there used to be a belt to grant the night vision feat (as the one dwarves have), but it has always been bugged (doesn't work at all). If you are worried by the rp side of the thing, I suppose you can buy one of those belt and rp as it is working.
Remember them all it's just a game.

There are scrolls of low light vision. Check Sorcerous Sundries, Candlekeep or High Hedge.

low light vision
darkvision
blind sight
true sight

All of them can be found in various means, an SS can cast a spell to give lowlight vision to the entire party.

I've been using the level 1 spell, Low-Light vision on Hoihe ever since his RcR. It works as Storm says, and gives it to the entire party. Ask your friendly local wizard to learn it and cast it, then there's no problem for you anymore!

Simple...don't play a human...bleh =P

Though...do those spells actually give the "Mode" bar vision or just change and give a radius to normal light?

Gives the mode. Mode stays after duration expires if zoning [the effect, not button]. Otherwise, you can always disable/enable it at will. Exactly like classic LLV.

AFAIK, there actually isn't a malus for using, although there is supposed to be. I checked a long time ago.

He's now using the scrolls. They're very cheap from Candlekeep, so it's just the inconvenience of having to trek down there to stock up every now and then.

Would be nice for assassins to get the spell, but useless for most of the sneaky races who get night vision of some sort by default.
