Background:
Mikal was born in Westgate to a common family in Baltazar Ward. The streets of Westgate are shady at best and when Mikal showed early talent for numbers, writing and language the family pooled resources to send him to stay with relatives in Suzail. There his schooling led to elementary arcane studies which his teacher undertook. Partly to repay a favour owed and partly out of fondness for Mikal. But kindly old schoolmasters and their rudimentary knowledge could only teach so much and under recommendation Mikal set out for the Sword Coast, intent on seeing the great cities of the West and seeking knowledge in Candlekeep.


Goals:
Surprisingly, Westgate's scrounging lifestyle has not left any deep scars on Mikal and he is not motivated by the acquisition of wealth, nor the machinations of political power. He is still caught in the naivety of a seeker thirsting for knowledge. Having a decent moral compass will mean that as more knowledge leads to more wisdom and understanding, a new drive - one for creating a change for the better - is unavoidable, but at this time still not given focus.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

The Damasks are 'legitimate merchants' in Suzail, but Mikal comes from the Westgate branch of the family, which supplies those in Suzail through means that are often less than savoury or legitimate. These same relatives did invest in Mikal's education for their own unrevealed agendas.

He is fundamentally good, and believes everyone should be given a chance. This means he is more inclined to curiousity when dealing with those of more obvious evil intent. After all, there might be something he could do to turn them around.

Cats were his favoured childhood pet, yet when he first called forth his familiar it was a bat! This he found unexpected and disturbing and as such he is usually not seen in the company of his familiar unless he is in immediate need of it's abilities.
