Clerics of specific genders

Unread post by Baboonicorn »

As per Stonebar's great post about the Morndinnsamman, some of the clerics of various deities are restricted to a particular gender.

Do we know if this is solely a dwarf-specific thing, or are there other deities who only allow male or female clergy?

For instance, I've only ever seen female clerics of Sehanine Moonbow on the server - I'm not sure whether that's just player choice or whether there's a lore-specific reason I've missed.

Edited to include link, because that deserves to be re-shared

At this timeline, Lolth and Eilistraee both only allow female clerics to the best of my knowledge

Neschera - "Logic can bring you from one step to the next, creativity can bring you from anywhere to everywhere"

Pretty sure Lolth allow male clerics, but they can never gain a lot of levels.

I've seen male sehaninite clerics. I'll need to check my source material for elven faiths though.

According to this http://www.feuros.com/D&D/Faiths%20and%20Pantheons.pdf ,
there is no mention of the Sehaninite clergy's genders. I'll check some other sourcebooks, but I think it's universal.

I also read a in one of my sourcebooks that female clergy wear white/silvery gowns while male clergy prefer white/Silvery togas. It may have been greyhawk, though. However, if it fits FR then it clearly states males also exist!

Moon Elves, both male and female, revere Sehanine Moonbow.

The only Seldarine goddess that has exclusively female clergy is Angharradh, for obvious reasons.

I checked Sehanine in Demihuman Deities - her clergy is a 48/52 split male:female. So my handsome moon elf may yet see the light of day night.
