"We should take the army head on!"

"... it sounds like a terrible idea, but look at that smile."
"And he just sounds so confident ... he is a favored soul."

Somewhere in the wylds of the Sword Coast
Her blue piercing eyes are staring at him. The woman looks upon him as he reads by candlelight. In the background he hears the sharp *thunk* as steel hits the wood. A howl in the night from the wild of the mountains pierces the somewhat normal dull drum of their evening. Looking up suddenly he hears the woman's soothing voice. "Mind ye not my boy it is just the wolf crying out to the moon." He smiles and the woman returns the smile filling him with comfort and love. He feels a hard slap on his back and he grunts just a little from the solid feel of it. "Aye, no son of mine is going to be a scared little runt. Ye may not be the biggest boy but you are going to be a devil of a fighter I promise." The man grins and punches him playfully on the shoulder. "Dad ye know I was not scared!" The boys voice not very convincing as one can her the slight rise in tone and shakiness of it.
In his dream he begins to smell the distinct smell of sulphur. His skin begins to warm as he feels the heat of fire. As he looks around his entire home is in flames. He feels panic begin to set in and as he turns to look at his father the man he looks at begins to turn black as ash and bursts into flames. He turns to find comfort in the arms of his mother only to watch her burst into flames and from the fire burst forth the face of a great wyrm. It begins speaking "I will find you Koryeneer and you and all your kin will die! I will reap by fire all you know and all you care about. wherever you may roam and wander I will visit the hell fires of a dragons belly upon the land and it's people!"
He wakes suddenly in a cold sweat, his immediate focus on the night sky scanning for the wings of his enemy the fear has gone as he has awaken and no dragon slayer ever was afraid...........

*In a secluded grove near Baldur's Gate*
As the dawn sun rises a man is bowed low in prayer to The Morning Lord. The sun glints gloriously off of his breastplate the crimson of his cloak accented by the suns first light and brilliancy of his armor. A soft breeze fills the glade as morning's first light pushes out the cool nights air. Birds chirp softly from the trees as he continues his morning vigil singing sweet praises to the dawn of their own.
As the sun rises and starts to hit him directly he rises and picks up his spear giving one last praise to Lathander before setting off in the direction of Baldur's Gate and ultimately to a stiff drink and some roasted meat in civilization for a time. Grinning and thinking of the meal to come he slings his pack on his back and sets off at a brisk pace always keeping eye to the skies and over his back. The roads were being patrolled less and less as such the safety of travelers was not guaranteed much. Still his mind was on that fine meal so much that he did not see the small black wyrmling that came abruptly upon him.
A terrible screeching was heard just as dragon acid hit the tree next to him. Not panicked Koryeneer easily tumbles out of the way but was nearly grazed across his spear with some of the acid. Feeling the burn of the dragon's breath he quickly unseats his shield from his pack and readies to make battle with the small dragon. Wind and dust begin swirl all around him as the beast lands before him giving a great screech standing as tall as it can before settling and looking upon Koryeneer. "The master sends his regards little human." The beast holds it's ground speaking to the spearman. For just a second he is surprised at this sudden attack and even more message from his past being sent. "I would tell your master something as well if you were not going to die here today little errand runner!" Koryeneer grins and gives a solid spear thrust in the direction of the great beasts throat only to be knocked flat in an instant as it rises into the air laughing. "Not today little slayer you would need more than that spear to pierce the hide of even my young hide let alone my master's"
As quickly as it began the encounter was over and the man left gathering his gear and applying a healing bandage to his arm. He strolls off somewhat perplexed at the current situation more on guard than before for the dangers of the road were more these days.......

*A dark corner in one of the local taverns of Nashkel*
The man eats quietly in the back studying a book from his childhood one of the few things he was able to salvage from his childhood home before the dragon's fire burned up everything and burned all he loved. He grips at the book just a little harder as he reads the inscriptions within. The binding is tattered and torn and smells of old caverns. The pages are worn and brittle as he carefully looks through it for any clue as to how he can defeat the dragon if at all. he scours the pages and pages of spells and scribbles of his late mother looking for anything that might help. A spell or a weapon, something would be better than the nothing he had at the moment. His spear had served him well with many of the fiends so far, however this new threat was different. He would need something magically enchanted to defeat the wyrms he would face now. He closes the book finished with his meal he pays for it and requests a room for the night. He saunters up to his room to a nice sleep in a warm bed unaware of the eyes above.
In the dark night sky no one notices a great beast flying overhead scanning for a safe place to carry out it's orders.......

*North of the Troll Claws*
He walks silently alone in the night the dark road before him like some sort of fateful path to follow. His mind is on other things. The days journey had left him battered and bruised but no worse for wear. Footstep after footstep brings him closer to his destination of Baldur's Gate he can hear the steps hit dirt in rhythm as he keeps pace in his mind. As if by instinct he looks to the skies and tree lines for sign. Any sign that tells him to be ready. The life of an adventurer is hazardous even more for one hunted. His mind briefly flashes back to his time before the Gate and he allows it for a second to seat and find home in his heart as he does his vision begins to blur and go fuzzy. He feels a great sadness in his heart sucking at the very fabric of his soul. He clears his throat and quickens his pace down the road.......

The Mountains of Nashkel
He is running through the glades. Laughter fills the sky. The other children are all running along side as the sounds of the town festival ring through the valley. His heart fills with longing as he looks upon the scene feeling the crisp spring wind and warming light of the sun above. The people of the town are all enjoying the day as meat is roasted and goblets are passed around. Minstrels from all over are playing tunes for the people to hear and dance. Plays are being put on and all manner of games are played by adults and children alike....Then it fades slowly as he begins to hear the crackles of fire.
He slowly opens his eyes in the night and listens to the wolves howl and the owl hoot. The mountains are alive on this night. He stares into the fire remembering always the feel of the sun and the laughter of his people. Never forgetting home and never, ever forgetting the one who destroyed it and his happiness.

Somewhere a Dragon searches flying over the landscape looking for its prey.........

*Up North of the Gate*

A monstrous roar fills the cavern as the battle ensues. Many of the men who have come to fight the wyrm are knocked flat in an instant by the megaton force of the beasts wing flap and roar. Some are too terrified to even move as the man who led them to the cave howls a roar in turn unaffected by the massive beasts first assault on the travelers. The beast draws back for just a second at surprise. This little man is no simpleton or even some drunken hopeful like many who had come before. No this was a trained Dragonslayer. Koryeneer grins as he knows the beast had finally realized this was a fight........
