Weird graphics glitch Ubuntu 12.04 - Play on Linux

Unread post by Hoihe »

After finally getting it to work...

I got this graphics glitch:

Image

What info should I give? Any idea how to fix it?

Followed the instructions on this page

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2195996

Funnily, the glitch that made NWN2 near unplayable outside text RP on Windows XP is gone. And I'm glad... This one I can put up with.

Maybe a bit of an obvious one, but:
Did you update your videocard drivers?

... Good question, I'll check Nvidia's website. Not sure about the properitery drivers I was offered through Linux Update Manager.

Actually that happens when one does not play a character long enough. Have you RCR-ed recently enough?

Linux update manager updates your "nouveau" driver... which is the native driver of linux, I believe. Nvidia offers their own drivers though, which work for linux as well.

I'm not sure though, this might be ubuntu specific.

Chances are that you are running a packaged Open GPL driver. You need to use the one that comes from the manufacture (proprietary). I am surprised that you were even able to start up NWN2 without it. After you install it, and do not expect it to be as easy as Windows, you may need to tweak some settings in Wine and or DX.

Also, since you are using Ubuntu, check this page out: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/10/p ... data-leaks You may want to change some settings.

Okay.. this glitch is fixed. Had to update to manufacturer drivers.

New glitch!

Anyone who is wearing a hood is bald. I'm thinking I'm mixing either the texture or the model.. Anyone got an idea how to fix that?

Hoods Show Up As Bald Heads
Welcome to my world!

From what myself, Eden and Blunk could determine, Arsan Hood HAK is integrated into the BG files for appearances, but whatever Arsan designed his Hood's with or how he designed them, is not coded correctly for interpolation when NOT using wither straight Windows or Mac versions of NWN2 (meaning in you use an emulator like Wineskin (that's me and Eden) or, I guess Ubuntu).

Sorry Hoihe, but bald heads till Kingdom comes for you now too!

You mean you see a bald head for anyone with a hood?

Usually, when there is a texture missing, you see the red-green-blue-yellow "Missing Texture" texture. The only case when it does not happen is when there is a blank texture file with no pixels. So, I would make the educated guess that you are missing the model.

I think what Steve says is right...

I think Hoihe will no longer wear hoods then... Ah well..

Power to hats!

... Now time to steal all of Soora's hoods then all will be well.

This got me thinking. Considering the Arsan Hoods works in a basic Windows or Mac install of NWN2, but not when using a different OS (Ubuntu) or an emulator (Wineskin), I am wondering if how Arsan Hood's file names might contain an odd character that is not transferring properly to the game engine, as it is run through an emulator or odd OS.

Can anyone open up the BG hak file and see how the Hood models are listed via their text name or file name?

Here are all the files directly from the Arsan Hood pack beta:

Image

Following is the link to Arsan Hood hak blueprint. Someone could load this up, create a new single masked hood, save it with a BG friendly name, then submit to Luna for the Appearance Changer? Then, those of us who continue to see bald heads for Arsan Hoods, could check this single, new appearance using the blueprint, and if it works, at least we can "know it works," then compare file names or export or whatever to fix the rest.

Considering I've been seeing bald heads for 2 years now, man, would I be stoked to fix this!

Recently finished college and finally have some free time, tried looking back at getting the client launcher to work for NWN2, still can't figure it out. Was anyone able to get it working on linux? (preferably with PlayOnLinux or Wine, I don't have crossover)

Topic's ought to be enough answer: That is, yep. It works with PlayonLinux none the less.

He's talking about Skywing's CE I believe based on a previous thread he and I discussed in, which is an unfortunate no (due to it's requirements). The game client will work, but the CE does not.

The game itself runs, I just hate manually grabbing the IP addresses/ports, plus the client launcher fixes some minor issues.

I'm running Netrunner (Kubuntu based) and using Wine 1.6.2 (windows xp) for NWN2.

GLSL support is turned on, Direct Draw is on OpenGL, Video Memory is 1024 (think minimum required was 512), and Off Screen Rendering is FBO.

I've got the following packages installed:
d3d9 (or directx9)
devenum
dxdiag
quartz
vcrun2005
-Can't remember what else was put on the prefix, also not sure how to check. Been a while-

On another note, the skywing launcher will launch the game itself, but crash the other two programs from running. Not sure if that helps.
