DM Golem's Events
Rules
Even a soulless automaton has ideas about what will make a smoothly run event. Unlike my physical form, I don't like to set thing in stone. There are a few concepts, though, that I keep to constantly, so please bear them in mind.
I reserve the right to update them / amend them.
One: Death
Death can be a bit immersion breaking if not handled carefully. As such:
- Please do not respawn from death without asking.
- When a comrade falls, please wait for confirmation as to whether they are dead, or merely knocked out.
- I may wait for quiet moments before permitting resurrection.
Two: Non-Hostile NPCs
For mechanical reasons, give me fair warning if you wish to attack a non-hostile NPC, and wait for me to turn it hostile.
Three: Communication and Patience
The DM Client is surprisingly restrictive, and its easy for DMs to miss player actions due to distance or the sheer mass of information. It can also be laggy in large events. Please, therefore, be patient. Communicate with me if you think I have missed something. Its very likely to happen and I won't bite if you remind me. Or if I do I will say sorry.
Four: Stay Together
Quite literally, I cannot DM in two places at once. If someone runs off alone, I either DM for them, or the main group. On this basis, running off alone is almost a selfish act if I am forced to follow you without planning. Thus, if the party must split, please notify me OOC and I will see if something can be worked out (it will likely involve one set of players pausing their RP, which is why I am not a big fan of split parties).
Five: This Thread
...can be considered an IC rumour thread, but please respect the locations described and consider whether your PC would actually learn of what's described, IC.
Six: Lore Skill
I have always used the following system related to lore skill in my events, asking players to break down their lore points into specialities. This is mechanically represented now.
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/knowledge.htm
These are the DC's I use as a guideline. I also take into account the level of specialism your PC has within a field, and how specialist the given information is.
Check
Answering a question within your field of study has a DC of 10 (for really easy questions), 15 (for basic questions), or 20 to 30 (for really tough questions).
In many cases, you can use this skill to identify monsters and their special powers or vulnerabilities. In general, the DC of such a check equals 10 + the monster’s HD. A successful check allows you to remember a bit of useful information about that monster.
For every 5 points by which your check result exceeds the DC, you recall another piece of useful information.
You may notice, super epic lore levels are not going to be that neccessary here, but by the same token, zero lore investment is going to hit hard in some cases!

A Duchal Court is Held

((image shamelessly stolen from the Helmite guild thread))
The Dukes of Baldur's Gate held a court, inviting various dignitaries to attend while they grant audience to the Everwatch Knights, who act as emissaries from the Council of Six of Amn. Duke Eltan was not present, called away on urgent business.
Those in attendance were: The Order of the Silver Rose, the Enclave of the Red Wizards, the Elves of Doron Amar, The Merchant's League, The Elder Circle and Candlekeep. The Order of the Radiant Heart was noted to be absent.
There was much discussion about the relationship with Amn and the state of the Trade Way. The Dukes were minded to root out banditry. No agreement was made with the emissaries from Amn, the Dukes expressing a wish to see an Amnian commitment to the Trade Way first.
There was discussion of recent threats against humans by Elven extremists. Doron Amar publicly denounced the extremists and promised aid in tracking them down should it become be necessary.
There was discussion of the formation of a committee to discuss foreign and trade affairs with the intent of reporting to and advising the Dukes. The Dukes expressed their desire that the viability of this be explored.
Two dwarves tried to force their way into the Court towards the end of proceedings, claiming to be ambassadors from Kraak Helzak. They were ejected from the city. If they prove indeed to be ambassadors from the dwarf city, this could lead to a diplomatic incident.

Operation: Gnome sacrifice
Booby trapped gnomes deliver the refusal of Kraak Helzak to treat with the General forcefully.
A gnomish citizen sells her life to make the ploy more believable, and the General is sorely wounded.

Heavy Watchknight
http://www.bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?p=612890#p612890
En Darasha Everae aid the Everwatch Knights in escorting Helmite priests to an old Helmite ruin. Rituals of Helm open a portal of faith into the depths beneath the old mausoleum, where an eternal watch had been set over a series of Helmite relics.
A race against time ensues when the General's soldiers are spotted approaching by a vigilant paladin. Facing traps, guardians and riddles, the group liberate relics of Helm, with the elves, apart from a brave mage, departing at the Head Watchknight's request when the undead got too close - the Everwatch planning to Dimension Door to the far side of the undead force at the last possible minute. Sure enough, this plan pays off, and after outrunning pursuit the Everwatch get away with the relics.
The undead soldiers scour the ruin, encountering one of the guardians left behind by the elves and knights, a Helmite Golem, commanded to defend the depths even though nothing was left there of value. Thinking this meant that the relics were still in place, the undead attack. Many bones are broken before the folly of it becomes clear.
