It have repeatedly been stated by various DMs that the weekly quests are to be considered OOC. I agree with this except for the first time a character do these quests.
However, since the quests themselves are to be considered an OOC means of XP and Gold, does this mean that they can be completed OOC as well?
While doing the quests, can you completely ignore everyone else you meet, never stop to RP, do quests outside your alignment, choose options in quests outside your alignment, etc?
If yes, doesn't this break with the 1st and 3rd rule of the server, in regards to staying IC and RP'ing your character sheet?
If no, aren't the quests to be considered IC then?
Both can't be true at the same time, so which is it?

Re: Weekly Quests
You are a real troublemaker, you know that right? lol! ok JK
Good question.
I think that as a player you can be running your character on quests and be in the quest "zone" and not looking for RP. That said, if someone talks to you/engages you/ambushes you-for-RP I think that you need to stop what you are doing and, frankly, be ambushed. This has happened to me as a player a number of times and all I do is stop the mindlessrunningofquests and RP with the character in front of me. Sometimes this is a couple of sentences. Sometimes this is a couple of hours. It all depends on the character you encounter. Your character is never, 100% out of character even when just runnings quests. Decorum, that is to say you level of politeness, will dictate whether or not you engage that eager character wanting to talk to you, or run past them with your nose in the air as if to say they don't matter. You can never be completely OOC even though we consider quests OOC for the sake of RP.

Hehe, you can call me a troublemaker anyday Ark! I'll just consider you a grumpy old man
Alright, pretty much how I thought it was.
Bonus question:
Character's possessing various means of speeding up the question process, either through items, spells or spell-like feats - primarily Haste effects in this case - often do so in Baldur's Gate, Beregost and Nashkel. Some of these places have a strict policy about magic use within the walls of their respective domains. Is the use of such magic godmodding the NPCs, guards and commoners alike, or is it allowed due to the OOC nature of all quests?

I'm no DM, but I'd say no. You rp with anyone you meet and you better have an explanation prepared, in case someone asks you why the heck morninglord of lathander is helping that imp from sharpteeth.mireigi wrote:It have repeatedly been stated by various DMs that the weekly quests are to be considered OOC. Also, dialog choices that are visible to everyone else (witch quest, lady's loss) are IC.
Same applies to magic. If you cast in beregost and have no license, you're commiting crime. If you cast in BG, you're commiting crime. And so on.
That's an opinion, of course...
Just be real glad that the quests don't have alignment shifts in them. Because that one would've been downright evil.

Re: Weekly Quests
I'd say that even if you are running quests OOC for the purposes of running quests and not RPing, you still have to follow the rules - i.e. no metagaming the guards, casting spells where you shouldn't (or without a license) and of course not running quests in areas where you are not supposed to be. (UD or surface) The whole OOC vs. RP question really is that players want just to run the quests and not role play, it is not about being out of character it is about the character not RPing with others that they meet - they are not there to grind, party up, follow a plot line, stand around a campfire for hours hoping someone says something dumb so they can PvP them...mireigi wrote:Hehe, you can call me a troublemaker anyday Ark! Alright, thanks for clearing that up. Pretty much how I thought it was, but better safe than sorry
Yeah, I don't do the Imp and Sandwitch quests.NegInfinity wrote:I'm no DM, but I'd say no. You rp with anyone you meet and you better have an explanation prepared, in case someone asks you why the heck morninglord of lathander is helping that imp from sharpteeth.mireigi wrote: - snip -
