Etherealness and fleeing the area

Unread post by mireigi »

What are the rules for fleeing an area when under the effects of Etherealness / Ethereal Jaunt / Greater Sanctuary when you have a train of True Seeing monsters hot on your tail, while possibly carrying one or several KO'ed allies?

Are you required to go back to clean it up, knowing that it's there, and knowing that even when fully buffed, you might die while in the loading screen?

It's an OOC nice thing to do, but it wouldn't seem justified ICly to immediately go back to an area that you barely escaped, especially not if you know that the path to the area is now likely guarded by several monsters.

Would it be considered acceptable to leave a sign or DMFI-modded lootbag with a warning to others that attest to their doom if they enter nilly-willy?

A good question. While there isn't a particular rule for situations like this, players who consistently drag monsters to a transition and leave them there will probably have a stern word or two from the Staff. That's sort of our standard "Don't be a jerk" standby so that we don't have to write a hundred rules detailing each and every action anyone can take online.

In that situation, I'd probably get my dead allies to a Priest. Having your character die while carrying a corpse can cause the corpse to be lost, and bug your own character. In these events you are then forced to speak with Myrkul. DMs will not refund experience for this.

I've seen really nice players rename a stack of bolts something like "Dangerous" outside the trans. That helps sometimes.

Thank you for the explanation, Narshe.

The next time it happens to me, I'll leave a note at the transition in the departure area.

Is there some sort of script that checks for monsters near the transitions when the last PC leaves an area btw? Some areas seem to despawn Flee Trains, while others do not.

I never really noticed this til I started DMing, but when some zones empty of players, the monsters literally disappear. DMs don't even count towards this effect. We'll be at Hillgiants or something and the party there will go inside and rest or split up. All the mobs vanish.

This is good because it keeps the inactive zones from eating up server processing. Makes things way smoother. But I'm still not sure what all triggers it and how reliable it is.

The transitions don't check for hostile monsters though. I've entered areas and double transitioned from Area A to Area B to Fugue before. Just zoned in, died, and got dumped in fugue to look at combat logs and wonder what the heck happened.

Been a while since that's happened to me though. ;)

Yep, I've had the transition fugueing (new term? :)) happen to me too.

I've also had the transition resurrection fail happen to me before, where the resurrection of my character happens before the load screen for the Fugue is finished. Causes the corpse to disappear, but I'm stuck in the Fugue until I talk with Myrkul and can be sent back to Gloura's / Farmlands / FAI with no XP cost.
