Animals/fey attacking druid... how to react?

Unread post by NegInfinity »

In general, how am I supposed to react to animals or forest creatures attacking my druid?

As far as I know, they shouldn't be doing that. I also should be able to calm them down, probably, but mechanically I can't do that.

So am I supposed to search for source of madness in every fortress or something?

Treat them as hostiles. Just see them as out of balance. There are many reasons why such creatures would attack even a druid.

-If you are referring to the fey creatures found in the Cloakwoods, it has generally been understood amongst those of the Elder Circle that those creatures had been corrupted by the shadow druids and come under their fell influence.

-Now, there have been IG/IC quests involving those very same spawns amongst the Elder Circle whereby the corrupting influence was removed, but the spawns have NOT been updated to reflect such as of yet. I assume that, in time, those spawns will change to reflect the quests completed. I RP now, with my nature oriented characters, that it is just the lingering effects of the corruption.

-These things just stated relfect my own knowledge/experience/RP. Others, including the staff, may have a different opinion and/or outlook on these things altogether.

Why shouldn't animals be attacking druids? Why shouldn't fey attack druids? There's a reason for the dominate/charm/hold animal spells, for instance. And fey don't give druids any special privilege, just like that.

Anyways. Druids have spells like Hold Monster. Use that.

Had impression it does not apply to fey near mine entrance area, only to fey in deep/centra/heart of cloakwood.

Because you're part of nature, can speak to them have wild empathy and they're willingly come to your aid when you need it?

Animals, normally, do not attack everything they see and do not fight to the death (they hunt when hungry and run away when wounded). Fey in cloakwood area are supposed to be shy and reclusive. Especially dryads. Any druid would wonder why every single animal he/she comes across is in berserker mode. Natural conclusion would be something along the lines that the whole coast is cursed or something like that. Which is why I asked question in DM area, and not in user forum.

Hold monster is not available at low levels.
I was not asking which spells to use, but how to react to that. I can, of course entangle a wolf/fey/dryad/whatever and could attempt to ask them what's wrong, but they won't tell me anything, because they're controlled by AI.

P.S. I had impression that animals do not attack druids by default, but upon investigation it turned out that this was not idea from D&D, but from some other source.
