Producing blueprint of a building.

Unread post by NegInfinity »

After multiple unsuccessful/failed attempts to involve other people and "create roleplay", I need to know which skill character is supposed to have in order to produce blueprint of a building that is supposed to be able to withstand extreme heat.

Any advice on that? There is no "craft building" skill.

Alchemy. To know which material, that would be best suited for the task. Lore perhaps for build design, or craft armor. I'm sure that the DM's will accept it if you rp the learning process. Spellcraft if you aim for magical aids. . . That sort of thing. But an NPC designer and contracter is probably the way to go. Can certainly be a fun event that. Design discussion. :-)

Well, things started moving on my side, so question is no longer in urgent need of reply...

But it still would be nice to see DMs responce for thatthat.

I kinda do have a hunch that Lore or Spellcraft could be used here, but it doesn't quite feel right.

Technically you would need Profession(architect) or knowledge(architecture and engineering), but we don't have those.

Craft Armour of course. Just look at snails. They carry their houses (building!) around as armour!

In PnP it would be either Craft (carpentry) or Craft (stonemasonry), I should think.

Knowledge (Architechure and and Engineering) should also be relevant. So the lore skill, perhaps?

Well, the problem I have with that suggestion is that craft armor implies blacksmithing.

Basically... metal. Or leather. Resulting object is fairly small.

Making a fire-resisting building means stone, and blueprint will need different kind of calculation - stress testing of sorts, meaning you would need idea of forces involved, you'll need to know where to place support so this thing doesn't collapse under its weight, how to make foundation so it doesn't decide to sink into soil, etc. Someone with Craft Armor, I believe would be able to make building defenses of certain kind - maybe some kind of plating, but not the building itself.

Similarly, someone with craft weapon could make ballistas or catapults for the building.

Which is why I asked. There doesn't seem to be a perfectly suitable skill for that , aside from abusing lore and assuming you somehow acquired necessary knowledge in architecture, and maybe backing it up with spellcraft (magical means), craft alchemy (materials) a tiny bit.
