Knockdown vs Disarm: which is better

And do they work equivalently? Does Disarm work in BG?

Unfortunately, far too many mobs were introduced to BG with Immunity to Disarm (thought I'm sure its not called that). So the ability to use Disarm in PvE is spotty at best. I think Theodore01 made a good list somewhere on the Forum for which Areas disarm is actually useful.

Fixing the situation would require redoing a fair number of the mobs.

But it still works in PvP!

Note that you don't get the weapon of your opponent in a PvP, nor does it fall on the ground, it's put back in his inventory and removed from the hotbars.

Personally I think they both suck immensely and are useless on this server. Knockdown only generates a +4 AB for 5 seconds and does not hit much on higher level mobs. Disarm is just flat useless in this server. Think for a second that PvP is not the general purpose of this server so the fact that the mobs are immune most of the time ruins that feat. Personally I would just save the feats and go with something else that helps a lot more mechanically. However RP is RP and we all like FLAVOR.

For a useful feat I would go with expose weakness it generates when it hits on the save a +3 AB and DEX Mod Damage for 5 rounds (30 Secs). I think that is a way more useful feat mechanically for any build if you can manage the evasion feat somewhere in your build.

I've got characters with both and I've found knockdown far more useful than disarm as long as your character has decent enough strength to make it effective.

You can view this thread for a work-in-progress list of disarmable creatures. Note that the list of creatures which are not disarmable is longer than those which are.... :(

Knockdown is the better of the two.

As noted Disarm doesn't work against a lot of mobs; plus you need a high AB and preferably a large weapon. If you have these, and don't mind that it only works sometimes, then it is useful.

Knockdown isn't that useful solo. They lose a round, but you also lose a round to KD. It can disrupt spellcasting, but Mirror Image defends against it. Given that the defender gets to use the highest of his Dex & Str it's not a guaranteed hit either, so the entire round can be wasted. It's much more useful in a group because everyone gets the +4 to attack.

That is probably were it is best used, though used wisely and timely, one can knock down a spellcaster before they cast a curse, regeneration cocoon, etc..

Also, using knockdown at the end of the round on the low AB attacks can prep your toon's next round to really take advantage of the +4 AB bonus, on the high ABs.

Hmm I never tried this because most of the mobs which could cast Mirror Image are also immune to disarm.

Any spellcaster or bard want to test this?

There's another question - does Mirror Image protect against Disarm? I guess if one, then the other, but given the number of bugs in the game that cannot be taken as read!

Somewhere down the line I'd like to make a shield wielder with ALL the charge feats, imp knockdown, some sneak attack from somewhere (probably blackguard). I think having imp knockdown to modify your shield charge is the most useful it gets.
I used to create flaming edgelords. Hopefully my characters have some depth now.
