I had a script on NWN1 that allowed PCs to make their own channels, inviting and removing whoever they wanted. It used a simple string to designate the channel you were in (ex. /m.1 TEXT HERE) and would only be sent to those who were invited (and accepted) into the channel. After multiple DM shouts regarding players going OOC in party chat, I though maybe that would be something to port over to NWN2.
So my question, would this interest people before I even bother?

I have asked the DM team about this before but they said they did not want it at the time. In any case I think that if you write such a script module it could be published on the nwn2 vault for the wider community, and we might decide to plug it in here at a later date. There is probably too much other stuff going on to give this a high priority right now.

Re: Meta-Channels (or player-made party channels)
ive seen ooc rooms added to places where people can go to just chat but i fail to see the point of private chat groups on a heavy rp server
you would end up with a bunch of people around a campfire with 3 different private chat groups going or somethin else that makes no sense
not to mention if it doesnt flag to DMs you just created a way people can easily metagame situations without the DMs knowing, granted you could already do it with tells but its harder to coordinate a group of people with tells
which is probably why they said no to it

Would also make eavesdropping on conversations impossible. It is hard enough with people using party channel.
If it would be possible to have party chat channels that can also be seen as local chat (if close enough) by those not in the party, that would be great.

Re: Meta-Channels (or player-made party channels)
There's always the IRC if you want to chat OOCly. I don't really like the idea of having multiple chat channels in game. The only thing I can see it really helping out with is when two DMs are running separate events simultaneously, so the DMs wouldn't have to listen to the party chat of the other event.

Re: Meta-Channels (or player-made party channels)
Truth is many people already chat via tells, party chat (when no DMs are online), or Skype. Instead of having people tab back and forth between different running programs (see the many people who phase out to chat on IRC), they could instead be in game and they could respond to things that are happening in game should someone approach and what not.
