Word on magic-imbued items?

Unread post by Grimcheese »

Considering the level of magic being slung around here, as well as enchanted jewelry, would it make sense to roleplay having minor enchantments on clothes/implements?

Things to come to mind:
  • Quills that dispense ink, so no more inkwells
  • Mending effects on cloth/armor to slowly repair damage accrued
  • Enchanted parchments so that anything written in parchment A shows on parchment B, maybe vice versa
I could probably list more if I slept on it. :) But long story short, if a character is sufficiently funded (or has enough friends), would it be alright on the DM front for someone to have/commission entirely RP-centric enchantments for items?

Unofficial DM response:

I don't see anything wrong with the suggestion. The magical enchantment on items ingame are pretty much only combat oriented. The world has other uses for magic and lesser enchantments are probably not too uncommon.

It's one of those things that falls between the "Play your character sheet" rule and our "Encourage roleplay" mindset. It's dependent how it's used and whether it'll be abused at some point and need to be further examined.

So just be tasteful in what you're doing with it and mindful that these things are meant to promote roleplay and not be exploited for gain.
