Feat to improve companion

Unread post by Seargonis76 »

I know there was a post about suggestions for new content but I cant find it. I think great feat to add that would encourage people to play several classes would be:

Improved Animal companion- This would allow rangers to mix classes and still get some of the improvement to the companion, or encourage pure rangers because it increases the power of the Companion. Not sure how it could work, maybe adds lvls to the current lvl like making rangers as good as druid. For pure ranger it could be a flat bonus to the animal. This feat seems fair as the companion weakens alot if your not pure and would encourage people to play wilderness stalker and other ranger prc that dont continue animal progression.

Improved Shadow- The shadow is near to worthless by the time you get it and dosent get much better as is. This feat could at least make it worth using. Like making it equal to the summon monster spell that could be used at the CL. Like you cant get the summon untill about lvl 10 so it should come out equal to the same spell you could cast. This would encourage people to use SD longer than a dip for hips.

Bg-Improved hellhound - This would encourage BG, because the hell hound is okay, but you cant have it until best case lvl 11 or 12 maybe slightly sooner and its barely useful, then it dosent increase by much. The same thing could be done to have it equal the summon monster at the very least, Though for both I think they should be better as its a one use thing and rp is more involved with it than just a spell.

Just a suggestion and this may have been done already, but no where that I could find showed it. The slight adjustment could be made to make them more powerful, but the feat shows a dedication to your pet. Could be a great rp tool and encourage all the classes with pets and summons to use them. Also encourage people to play the class because it is slightly better than before. I am sure I missed a class with a pet as well but the basic idea was that these could use a buff. Thanks just a thought.

Let me know what you think.

animal companion is the only one that would make any sense honestly, and thats if rangers dont get awaken, but then again they could simply be given awaken and then its not needed

as far are cross classing, there is already a feat to give your companion 3 extra levels for your cross classes

improved shadow wont be any good because there are multiple shadow summons from different sources and each one has its own shadow that sucks, SD shadow did get buffed up a bit however it was simply given more levels as you get higher SD levels

reason why it wouldnt be any good is because the main issue wouldnt be fixed and thats the fact that its an incorporeal creature with none of its bonuses, all of the shadows have to be redone entirely, wraiths also, so thats not something a feat will matter for and if it is done a feat wont be needed

BG summons are the same thing, they have to be redone entirely, but so does everything else that isnt an elemental, very few of them have what they should and elementals actually have more than they should, they are 20HD with stats of like a 28HD elemental or higher
everyone is evil till proven otherwise

oh well thanks. lol still would be great too see them redone, like you said, and a boon feat to improve them more like give them augment summoning bonus would be cool. otherwise its a useless class feature for the most part. The hell hound or shadow if effective or at least decent could be a great rp tool and make more people use the classes.
