Instadeath from con poison

Unread post by ctothep »

Hello,

I had it happen a couple of times on my svirf now and i am not really sure if that is really intended.

So i loot a chest which is trapped and get poisoned. I get con damage and use a resto potion to get rid of it, the poison still on me but no more con damage... all fine so far. Then a minute later or so there is another save because i am still poisoned. I fail the save and just die instantly from full health even with no con penalty on me because i used a reso potion before. I suppose that the second con damage just took all of my constitution (12) and brought it down to 0 which of course kills me.

I don't really know but isn't that a bit extreme? Taking all the constitution in just a single failed roll? Or perhaps a bug?

Poisons have 2 effects. On some of them the first effect is ability damage and the secondary effect Death. That is why it is useful to have antidote potions with you.

Poisoning is very easy to counter, in many ways

Strange that you died from it......I have had my CON at 0 and not died. May have a screen shot for you too. Weird....

con loss gets tricky

if you are not in combat and you lose con then you can pretty much go to 0 and not die

if you are in combat tho and you have taken damage you have to remember that when you lose con you also instantly lose the amount of hp that con is worth, so if you take a big enough con hit and dont have the hp left you instantly die

tricky part comes in when you have bonus hp from things or not

Well i have no idea how i died... i walked and then instantly dead. Combat log showed that i failed the save vs poison and then "Chest killed you" or something.

Was just a guess from my side that the poison put my con to 0 or in the negative.

However mentalists reply suggests that i did not actually die from the con damage but that poison can also kill you instantly.

Some poisons on this server will insta-kill you. Wyverns for example, fail your save and dead.

Also the way con damage works I am told is that if you take con damage which drops you to 0 con or below you automatically die. Con is basically your life force, 0 con equals 0 life force and thus death. Its a problem that usually only hellfire warlocks have to deal with as their powers drain con. Hope this helped.

(Lol and now having read the entire thread I see my explanation about con damage was redundant.)

thats the issue actually with 0 stats, there are no rules for 0 stats in nwn so nothing special actually happens, you can sit at 0 con just fine

wyvern poison isnt instant death it a high con damage roll, think its like 2d6 con / 2d6 con, if the damage rolls low you wont die, ive failed it plenty of times, however if it rolls pretty high and you are on someone who has a low con (anything less than 12), assuming you have already taken damage then the amount of hp you lose exceeds your remaining and you instantly die

even hellfire warlock can use their blast down to 0 con before it gets turned off and not die, its just the slightest sting after that may kill them
