So the ending of the metaplot is upon us. A massive undead army is close to Baldur's Gate, and with troops having returned inside city walls from the battle with the General, it looks like a siege is inevitable. The friendly forces are gathering behind walls, with more being teleported in each day from the Lord's Alliance. Another friendly NPC army lurks on the other side of the bridge, the army of the new dawn with allied companies of hellriders and the crusade of the watch. Still, the undead forces appear too threatening to risk pitched battle, the horizon covered with them. Among their number is the Blight, the main powerhouse of the horde, as well as the Angel of Decay generals and the herald and second in command; Magmire. Each proves a daunting task.
Throughout the coming days, which may be 5-10 days depending on our circumstances, I and other DMs will take up events to carry out the siege. Hopefully we can do a few events each day. The following is worth noting:
1.) The siege happens in real time. This means that any time between events are taken place before the siege actually starts. This is to simulate a constant ever-going siege, without you know, a DM going on an event for 120 straight hours.
2.) I'll have the same rule as before; a character cannot be everywhere at once. During the siege the events will be divided up as locations. So for example, we might have the eastern wall, the northern wall and the southern wall. If a character takes part in an event on the eastern wall, he can't take part in events at the other locations until they've also had an event. That's because the events are taking place at the same time in the game world, but not in real life due to obvious constraints. You as a player can of course take part in another location with a different character, but not the same character.
3.) We may postpone, change time, change DMs and all that at short notice, due to DDOS attacks or what not. It happens, so the scheudule is not super reliable.
4.) Permadeath strikes are possible. The undead forces are strong. Locations can be overrun, or become extremely difficult to hold from time to time, and defeats are as much a part as victories in this big slogging battle. As a player, you need to understand this. There is always at least a long-shot chance of surviving, but it's all up to the characters whom take part in the events how each event will pan out. Remember, heroes as well as fools or cowards are born from these struggles
5.) The story will unfold bit by bit on this topic after each event
