RP Only Items / Value

Unread post by Silver_Lining »

The RP Only items I'd like to discuss are those sold by the merchant in the FAI.
Candles/Glowing balls/Blankets/Tents/Signs/Bottles and the like.

I honestly and truly feel that the prices on these items should be far less than they are.

These items cost substantially more than some magical potions items and scrolls (Some of which can run as little as 22gp)

These items have -no- mechanical affects that give your pc some sort of advantage over others). All the -do- is create and facilitate RP.

A sign for a guild or asking for help.
A merchant stall bringing people to rp the sale of items or to a cause.
A bunch of candles used in a midnight memorial or holy service.

The true and only benefit these items give us, is RP. Something I believe makes the server as a whole a better place.

While these items can bring about or add spice to the RP experience, far less people are likely to take advantage of their existence on the server, when something as simple as a candle, that might cost you a dollar or less RL, costs four hundred+ gold in game ( I think it's about 405'ish). Then if say, you're thinking about using ten or fifteen candles for a holy service, you're getting into the thousands. So now you're looking at 15 candles for say a holy service or wedding or the like, in game, costing as much as many enchanted items on the auction block.

I am asking for a major and drastic reduction for the cost of these items to mirror their actual physical value, even though their rp value is priceless.

I'm not sure as to why the decision was for such inflated prices, but I think if an expensive drink is 9 gold it's more than reasonable to ask for a candle, or a book not to be so much off.

I wanted to add this to further support my request:

Here is the cost of a candle, per the 3.5 PHB ...

Agreed. I remember when I'd been playing all of a week or so and had a couple hundred coins to my IC name that some folks wanted to do a candlelight vigil for the epics who had gone off to war. My PC said she'd get a candle; imagine my shock when said candle cost a literal half of my worldly wealth. To make matters worse, the ground promptly ate the candle because of how I'd placed it! Thankfully, one of the other PCs present offered one, because my gal wouldn't have been able to afford another one.

Long story short, the costs of props should be less so that they're actually used.

I'll bring it up with QC. I'd have no problem dropping the prices personally, but it'll be up to the team. I know that when I used to play, I could bankrupt myself pretty easily on props. And frequently did. :P

If you put down a placeable prop and examine it, it will show who has placed it... So you can litter, but your name and account name will be visible on all of it.

I really hope they'll take a look at lowering the prices :)

Thank you for offering to bring it up with QC, Maecius :)

I really think they should be cheaper as well. New players should feel like they can use the props to spice up their RP. It really should not be something for just older or richer players...

My first experience with props was in the UD, I stumbled upon a ritual out in the tunnels and shortly PVP ensued where they killed the witness (me). The whole time I was awestruck over the effect a few simple props has on the environment. Afterwards I discovered how expensive they were and to date, I still haven't purchased any. If they were a little cheaper, and I could afford them, then certainly, I would use them as well. I just thought I'd share :D :D

Just wanted to pop my head in and ask the staff if
there's been any progress with the subject? I'm kind
of stuck out of the loop while I await a new pc.

I am torn over making them cheaper and thus more available to all players, and having them stay pricey as a gold sink to keep the value of gold as high as possible.

This server is a closed economy, the gold HAS TO GET OUT of circulation somehow in order for it to maintain even the modicum of value it has now. That is why (to my knowledge) guild halls cost money even if you do RP to support getting the materials for free.

In a perfect world though, the RP props would be cheap and high lvl toons would have true gold sinks to waste gold on. Something desirable, but not game breakingly so.

i think the rules for guildhalls was more to slow them down, lots of guilds were popping up and then everyone wanted a guildhall but there really wasnt a whole lot of people who knew how to work the toolset

so devs were working on things for the server as well as all these different guildhall requests (i even made 3 other than my own, one that lasted like 4 days bc the guy got in trouble and lost the hall and one that never went in because they stopped playing)

so the requirements along with being a gold sink help with guilds that actually show investment and stay around a while

I didn't intend to imply that was the SOLE reason guild halls cost money. But either way we have strayed off topic.
