Afendaria's scribbles.

Alturiak 26, 1352

We finally arrived, my father-through-marriage and I. The Caravan took well over a month of travel to actually arrive, but we got here.

I came to Baldur's Gate and I am quite disappointed. The place is currently a dump. There are dead bodies piled up in ditches and scrubby looking guards all about. Nothing like Cormyr. It looks like war ravaged the land and they lack the funds to properly clean it up. And the so called Flaming Fist that I heard about seems to be in tatters. Not like the Purple Dragons. But i guess you cannot expect much from a bunch of mercenary men.

This land and the travelers are quite strange. Nobody seemed to mind that I was murdering creatures in their own habitat. Lizardfolk died and not a single druid came to tell me off. In fact, I even had assistance. A dwarf and another, some cleric or Paladin or something with pale skin came along. Neither of them spoke but they just started helping me kill the creatures. It was very strange, since they didn't converse much. The only man in the wilds that actually seemed to communicate with me was this bear-of-a-man who scratched and punched the disgusting creatures. Didn't get any of their names.

The only person who has approached me with words is some fellow by the name of Leo. He just randomly told me that I have "insights" since I was holding a burning stick. It was my fire to light the way, because I cannot see...and I guess he took notice? Strange. In any case, we conversed and I discovered this place has had some issues with Banites and a Lich. Nothing that really concerns me currently. But he did give me two bags of coins. At first I thought he was going to ask me to go back into the inn with him to spend the night. However he didn't ask for anything. Just that he was "helping me out." Such random philanthropy.

At least I learnt there are caravans. And at least I discovered they have guards. I'll have to remember this, in case I come across any. I'm sure I will at some point.

Thairo is wandering about and I'm avoiding him. I'll find his first born son before him, and convince him to work with me.

Oh, and I'm supposed to remember Leo's quote "Today's adventurers are tomorrows leaders." Perhaps I'll use it in a future job.
