The Conversion of Sendo Leafsmoker

Unread post by Leaf_Smoker »

Sendo Leafsmoker was a devout Cleric of Loviatar, Goddess of Pain. He traveled the land at the bidding of his Mistress inflicting pain and torment on others. He reveled in his work; delighted in the screams of his victims. And he was good at what he did.

There came a time, when Sendo was traveling through Beregost, and decided on a lark to find a little sport. He noticed a cloaked woman strolling the streets alone, and set up an ambush in an alley way along her path. Once bound and gagged, Sendo began his work, right there in the alley. Upon removing her cowl, Sendo was taken back by her exquisite beauty, but enraptured by the will of his Goddess, Sendo carried out his brutal disfigurement.

Weeks after, Sendo could still not get her face out of his mind, nor could he forget what she looked like when he was done with her. He began to feel remorse for committing that act. This was a foreign feeling for Sendo, and he was not equipped to deal with it. Over the course of many months, he traveled far into the south, to Calimshan, where he came across a temple of Sune Firehair, the Goddess of Love and Beauty. Seeking succor and shelter on the road, Sendo begged leave to stay the night at the temple, and was allowed for a modest "donation". When Sendo was leaving the temple the next morning, he noticed all of the beggars that seemed to loiter around the temple gates, hoping for charity from the Priests. One beggar in particular caught, and held Sendo's attention. It was the woman from Beregost.

Sendo was shocked into immobility for a few moments, and then tried to slip off to the side and make his way out un-noticed. The woman saw Sendo, and followed. Sendo knew that he could easily evade her, and started heading for the temple wall, where he could scale it and make off, but the woman. who was close enough for Sendo to hear, told him that if he did not stop, she would scream rape and have the city watch after him. Sendo decided that the best thing would be to get this woman off the streets, where he could quietly kill her and be done with it, but the woman would not budge. She began accounting her tale to Sendo, out loud in front of everyone, so Sendo agreed that he would speak with her if only she would be quiet and step off to the side.

The seated themselves on a hay bail, right there in the courtyard of the Sunian Temple, and she told him how she fled south after his attack, due to the shame her disfigurement had brought on back in Beregost. This stirred those old feelings of shame that Sendo himself had felt. He began to doubt his path in life, and wondered why a Goddess would desire such beauty destroyed. Sendo devoted the next 4 months of his life to using his magic to restore the woman. He could not make her look the way she did before his heinous attack, but he managed to make her appear normal again. After Sendo had done what he could, the woman no longer needed to beg for alms in from of the temple. Since she was no longer as disfigured, and therefore not hideous to look upon, she was able to obtain work as a chamber maid in the Temple of Sune itself. Sendo would visit her regularly, and began listening in on rituals to Sune. Sendo decided that Loviatar was not the Goddess he wished to serve, and from that moment vowed never to destroy another thing of beauty in Faerun, and began the worship of Sune Firehair.
