New cleric build...
Going to try what i call a laser cleric. Basically this build uses no weapons or armor and focuses purely on magic. Its main attack is several dozen uses of searing light hence why i use the term laser. With sun domain i can put all lv 2 and 3 spells as searing light and should have around 20 uses per day once i hit lv 30. It will also make use of several dozen hammer of the gods for aoe attacks. Should have about 15 per day come lv 30. That combined with the high lv attack spells should let me do decent damage.

Favored Soul might be better. If you drop strength you should have enough points to have a good Wisdom and Charisma. Clerics do not get a lots of spells per rest, but have a bigger variety than FS. FS do can cast more spells per rest though. Just a thought

Problem is they need both Cha & Wis, whereas Clerics can get away with just Wis.Nocturnus wrote:Favored Soul might be better. Really this isn't a great idea for a Divine Caster. In any case, what's the point of no Armor? If you really want no Armor then I suggest Cleric/Monk. Even 3 levels of Monk will make a vast difference.

No armor cause i dont like armored priests. The games i played before coming here always had priests as purely magical classes, no combat abilities at all... this was and is the template i grew up with and prefer. Besides... how many priests do you see in RL wearing armor and packing heat.

You're thinking of now. D&D is set in a mythical middle ages. Think of the Knights Templar.V'rass wrote:No armor cause i dont like armored priests. Even during the middle ages you had priests who wore no armor and used no weapons. The Knights Templars were not priests... they were holy warriors.

But they are what Gygax based his Clerics on, not the monks sitting scribing in the monastery, nor the local parish priests.

monk, cleric, sacred fist, heirophant
Pump wisdom up, awesome build.
STR can be about 14. No need to carry a heavy suit of armor.
it would be a lot of fun.

Exactly; no Armor = need Monk and then you might as well take SF.

Re: New cleric build...
Scandinavian and some Germanic clerics were known to fight in battles wearing armor and carrying blunt weapons. The thought was that blunt weapons didn't Pierce the skin and thus killing with them was not sinful. Google Absalon to see a statue of a Bishop carrying an axe while riding a warhorse. Keep in mind that from about the late 7th century until the 11th century clerics were nearly identical to other nobles. They held vast estates worked by serfs and raised men at arms for their King in times of war. They would ride to battle and bring their religious ferver into the senseless violence of the era. Tapestries of the era back this up.V'rass wrote:Even during the middle ages you had priests who wore no armor and used no weapons. The Knights Templars were not priests... they were holy warriors.
I wish I knew more about other religions but sadly I don't know enough about the subject.

A cleric is not the same a priest. Even in D&D one can be a priest without being a cleric, or even a divine caster at all.V'rass wrote:No armor cause i dont like armored priests.
