Ideas for Maxwells rebuild?
Ever since the separation of lore into different fields of study I have been stuck on how to rebuild Maxwell. He has been RP'ed as a Dwarven Loremaster, Journeyman Smith, Diplomat, Enchanter Wizard that wields a light shield and light armor without stillspell. The result is I don't have enough skill points anymore. Ideas?

Re: Ideas for Maxwells rebuild?
How many skill points do you need?
------------
One of the ways to get a lot of skillpoints as a caster is to roll arcane trickster.
Rogue4/Wiz16/AT10, start with rogue.
Something like this (this is a quick test, pretty much). 9 maximized skills, 323 skillpoints, 32 intelligence.
http://nwn2db.com/build/?240486
The issue is that it requires non-lawful alignment, and Max is a dwarf.
--------
The other option is a bard with high int and maybe rogue levels (should net about 395 skillpoints).
-------
The absolute maximum number of skillpoints you can get as a dwarf would be 459 as a rogue 30. However, this character will not be able to use magic other than wands and scrolls and won't be able to "enchant" (because enchanting technically requires craft wondrous item/craft magical arms and armor).

Yeah, AT human or AT tiefling. I think there was one more race with +2 int bonus.chambordini wrote:There's like 10 lore skills you'll never get them all AND other stuff, an AT has 350 skill points tops.
Int maxed Dwarf Ro30 would be able to max 13 skills and get 14th one to 30.
I think if he wants max skillpoints, he would need something like Wiz5/At5/Ro20. That would allow a lot of skillpoints, dwarf would qualify for a Crafting Feat, and would be able to enchant via scrolls. It will be a fairly useless wizard, however.

All the lore skills are INT based. easy peasy for a wizard. i would just invest 1 point into every section, which should cover basic knowledge with your (what +9?) int bonus.

Re: Ideas for Maxwells rebuild?
Bard with inspire competence gives bonuses to all skills... DM Golem has stated that 15 ranks would be a near expert while more would make you one of the premier in that field (and 33 is overkill).
So perhaps build him as a bard (fits dwarven lore master to a tee) with decent INT, will allow him to be a light armor wearing caster with no issues as well. get's a good amount of skill points and you can essentially put 8 fewer skill points then you 'need' in each skill because of the bonus from inspiration...

exactly. I think wizard is more specialized while bard has a broader spectrum of knowledge.chad878262 wrote:Bard with inspire competence gives bonuses to all skills... Nah. Let's make him tiefling rogue/druid blacksmith. Imagine max's horror on the day when he wakes up and finds that he grew horns and became a druid.Moltrazahn wrote:Plus... imagine maxwell singing a jolly tune while wearing tights and playing a harpe.

Re: Ideas for Maxwells rebuild?
I'd rather not convert him into a bard for RP reasons as well as equipment.
I don't want all the lore skills just the ones relevant to Dwarves.
He actually wouldn't mind horns. He always found tieflings interesting.
Arcane trickster might work but I think I will run out of feats pretty quickly.

Are you stuck on being a Wizard?
Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about it

In this case I think AT is pretty much the only way to go about it.AlwaysSummer Day wrote:I'd rather not convert him into a bard for RP reasons as well as equipment.

I think it is the only (arcane) caster PRC that grants you skillpoint boost. Of course, I might be overlooking something. Wizard are low-skill-point classes, like fighters, etc.
...Actually there's also Daggerspell mage that gives even more skillpoints, but it requires Weapon Foocus(Dagger) and Two-Weapon Fighting. That might be worth looking into.
It would help if you said how many skills you want to max, though. Because I don't remember how many lore skills are there after the update.

Re: Ideas for Maxwells rebuild?
Damn. . . . I finally got some time to login and check and ya. . . 463 skillpoints is totally out of the question. Even if I sacrifice geography, local, the planes, and diplomacy I will be 8 points short of filling out one of the lore skills. *shakes fist at this*
Do I really need 33 concentration btw? The wiki says
Edit: I should mention that I generally use ICE rather than defensive casting so I really wont benefit from the first bit.
Do I really need 33 concentration btw? The wiki says
The concentration check is a variable DC from 15 (cantrips) to 24 (level 9 spell). A concentration skill of 23 or more allows this check to be basically bypassed in all circumstances, since a roll of 1 is not an automatic failure.
Which seems to indicate that 23 points prevent it from triggering attacks of opportunity and anything higher prevents it from being interrupted based of damage dealt. So with 5 from Constitution, 4 from Greater heroism, 33 points invested, and an additional 8 from equipment would the total of 50 concentration be overkill? Is a D20 added on top of that to prevent interruption? The 3 bonus to concentration works for the base concentration check against damage, DC being the damage dealt to you, separately for each attack that damages you during spellcasting, as well as for some other general skill checks.
Edit: I should mention that I generally use ICE rather than defensive casting so I really wont benefit from the first bit.

Re: Ideas for Maxwells rebuild?
You can only get this many skillpoints with int-maxed rogue 30. As a dwarf you can reach 459 skillpoints this way.AlwaysSummer Day wrote: 463 skillpoints
It depends on your playstyle. Concentration is useful for teleporting, and especially for teleporting into underdark.AlwaysSummer Day wrote: Do I really need 33 concentration btw?
I played low concentration sneakmage ( less than 10 concentration by level 20). It works, but I believe I ran into some serious teleportation-related problem around level 20 with that sneakmage.
Basically, you can absolutely play a gish with 0 concentration, but you don't want to cast anything near hostilities, ever. So, you'll be either using weapons or spamming reserve feats. Either that or you will have to kill them before they get close to you.
