The Brooding Barbarian

A bare chested Rashemen wearing red silk trousers and winterwolf fur boots sits in the Baldur's Gate market under the shade of a rented stall. He is armed on the hip with an easterner's khopesh. Wrists and fingers are banded with gold and bronze loops hang from his ears. Bored blue eyes stare at the passers by from beneath the straight cut fringe of his thick black mane as he broods there in the shade, drinking wine, drumming his fingers on the small table beside him.

A scrawny young boy of fourteen winters or less stands ten feet away on the edge of the street. This youth is presenting a fine cloak woven of nymph hair and he declares, apparently on behalf of the barbarian, the splendor of the masterpiece to the bustling afternoon marketplace. It is for gold or trade, all offers considered.
