Langerns and torches, again
I'm having problems with ALL light sources I can find.
Generally most of them don't burn or don't have vfx.
"Lantern on a stick" from magicians store doesn't light the area when equipped. It briefly flashes when I unequip it.
"Torch" from aello store doesn't burn and doesn't have particle effect on it.
I actually found a working torch on some dead monster, and it worked for me for a hour... till I unequipped it. Now I when I try to equip it, it no longer burns and has no vfx.
I haven't found new candles and "hand-held" lantern yet.
This is actually frustrating on character with no darkvision. If all the normal lightsources are bugged it would be nice to have cheap "Light x times per day" item for sale on some vendor.
Having pnp gem of brightness would work too:

Even if 13k gold for a torch is overkill, pnp gem of brightness ad unlimited number of uses for "lantern light".

\\just drop it and pick it up again - quickfix.NegInfinity wrote:I actually found a working torch on some dead monster, and it worked for me for a hour... till I unequipped it. Now I when I try to equip it, it no longer burns and has no vfx.
However would be great if torches could be fixed overall.

Just a note, though it might not be the case here. Don't quickslot lanterns, at least that used to break them for good.

That was literally the first thing I did with it.Blackhorizon wrote:Just a note, though it might not be the case here. Don't quickslot lanterns, at least that used to break them for good.

I think it would be nice to have light x times per day item somewhere in a shop :-\

Re: Langerns and torches, again
FWIW, the classic "torch" is the stock NWN2 OC stock item. It is what it is. The lantern things are from NWVault and are what they are, aside for being renumbered since they conflicted with pre-existing banners, which also use "torch" as their type.
One of my PCs has a torch quick-slotted and it always works for me. Torch-fighting style is handy, especially if trolls are nearby.
Anyway, if a torch ever failed to light for me, TheodoreO1's advise works for me; drop it then pick it up again.

Re: Langerns and torches, again
Maltz seems to have for example two lanterns:
Cost 27 g Lantern:
Base item: Torch
Weight: 1.0 pound(s)
Cost 4 g Lantern:
Base item: Torch
Weight: 1.0 pound(s)
Special properties
Light Normal (15m) Orange
Are both supposed to shed light or only the cheaper one with the special property?
When equipping the one without special property, I see no light sphere.
When equipping the one with special property, I see no light sphere but when unequipping there's a flash of light.
I did not have any other gear on that would have a light source. I then tried my hood that has light on it and that works normally.
In the past lantern has worked normally. At least pre-banner torches.

Make sure you don't have the "Illumination" feature turned off, eh?

Re: Langerns and torches, again
I have not used the toggle illumination but I tested it with same results as above.
Only item I noticed a difference was the hood where light source was clearly on and then off and on again.
Lanterns stayed off with the exception of the flash of light when the lantern possessing special light was unequipped.

Re: Langerns and torches, again
This is curious. Nothing was changed on the lantern items besides what model file to use for appearance. Item properties were not otherwise changed.
Did you try dropping the lantern then picking it up again? This action often resets a non-lighting torch to become fiery-bright-when-equipped again.

Re: Langerns and torches, again
I tried dropping them on the floor and picking them up. They still behave the same way. I even tried the toggling illumination after to no result. I bought these lanterns from Maltz just to try them out and they behaved this oddly from the start.
Also if I put my hood on and have the lantern in hand, it will kill the hood light until I unequipped the lantern. Torch also doesn't have the flame or light. Torch was bought from Maltz. I also bough lanterns from the magic shop. Same thing.
Video
Not that I'd need a lantern, the OP's problems just made me curious. These items just seem dead on my char's hands O.o
Also sometimes the lantern with special properties flashes when unequipped but it doesn't happen all the time and it didn't happen on the video.

Re: Langerns and torches, again
I went to buy the 2 lanterns and the torch from Maltz also with my hin char and I have the same result. No light, no flame or light on torch. Also if I have a light item on (this time ring) equipping lantern kills that light.
Perhaps it's just me that gets these Shar cursed lanterns. Certainly seems odd. I am 100% sure that at some point since I started playing again here (3 months give or take) I have had working lanterns that has shed light. That was probably pre-update.

That's exaclty the problem I experienced.Blackhorizon wrote: When equipping the one without special property, I see no light sphere.

It used to work and became broken at one point.

Re: Langerns and torches, again
More curious. Old torch on long-time PC works fine. New, store-bought torch does nothing. Drop-pickup trick is no-go.
Always something....

Re: Langerns and torches, again
Did the torch change place in the hak? The lanterns did. Could that cause the not working anymore? Is the number related to a script and the script having the old numbers? Just guessing here.

Re: Langerns and torches, again
The torch is the classic NWN2 stock torch.
All of the "lantern" items work locally in my item test module that uses full BG-HAKs. Some have item property - light - on them. Not really needed if it works as intended. This will require further research.
