I have a pure druid of lvl 24 and it has Epic Animal Companion.
My worg however is only lvl 18. Is this due to some ecl?
Otherwise I would take it that the companion should be lvl 27 with the feat?

Companion progression levels are like spell progression levels. They aren't even. In the same way that a 16th level wizard has 9th level spells, you have 27 companion progression levels, which gives you an 18th level companion.

Also, worgs are different from other companions and at some level they get +1 HD instead of +2 HD. Meaning other companions would have 19th level in your situation.
