Counterspelling, Epic. Is it still here?
Currently trying to plan a build involving counterspelling. However I notice that where Epic counterspelling is still listed as a feat under the "New and custom feats", Epic counterspelling have all been crossed out in the "Counterspelling" description post.
Has Epic counterspelling gone the way of Mastery of Counterspelling? down the drain? :3

Futher questioning!
I recall back when mastery of Counterspelling was in jegs, one could pick it as an Archmage feat. Is epic counterspelling (if its still here) also available to be picked in this manner?
... Anyone...?

I do believe it is currently disabled, yes, and contrary to the feat description it is highly unlikely to be dished out by a DM for RP reasons.

It is enabled.
Both High arcane master of counterspelling from archmage and epic counterspelling are available. Did a long series of tests with mrm3ntalist with these and they do seem much stronger in theory than in practice. Could be a fun type of character though, a counterspeller

You've had them for like 1,5 years. We just didn't bother to announce it apparently!

Which is a bit annoying, seeing as I planned my abjurer counterspeller without archmage under the assumption (based both on official posts and on specifically asking other people on the IRC) that Mastery of Counterspelling wasn't available.Karond wrote:You've had them for like 1,5 years. Oh well, not RCRing again. My wizard's income can't afford it.

We'll be working, slowly but surely, to update the forums and the wiki.
The last couple of years, probably close to three years even, we have not had anyone to keep an accurate change log. Since around the start of 2016, we've been working to overcome the challenges presented in having an MIA admin, and while it's been a learning experience for everyone, Duster47 and Rasael are working much harder than Luna was able to to track their own changes. And QC is helping us figure out what's wrong or not present in the custom content threads.

Re: Counterspelling, Epic. Is it still here?
Since I can't find any Forum/IG reference atm:
Arch Mage:
Arch Mage:
Spell Turning:High Arcana: Mastery of Counterspelling — Archmages can counterspell as if using spell turning.
I have no idea how it actually works in-game...does anyone even have a PC with it?When spell turning is cast, spells and spell-like effects targeted on you are turned back upon the original caster. The abjuration turns only spells that have you as a target. Effect and area spells are not affected. Spell turning also fails to stop touch range spells.
From seven to ten spell levels are affected by the turning.
When you are targeted by a spell of higher level than the amount of spell turning you have left, that spell is partially turned. The subtract the amount of spell turning left from the spell level of the incoming spell, then divide the result by the spell level of the incoming spell to see what fraction of the effect gets through. For damaging spells, you and the caster each take a fraction of the damage. For non-damaging spells, each of you has a proportional chance to be affected.
If you and a spellcasting attacker are both warded by spell turning effects in operation, a resonating field is created which may drain both spells or effect both spell casters.

Re: Counterspelling, Epic. Is it still here?
As per the Wiki:
And, for bonus points: when (if) will Counterspelling with Dispels be "unlocked" for Epic Spells?
I guess why I'm asking is: If you plan a Character to become an Epic Counterspeller, that whole investment falls flat when you engage a foe that has an Epic Spell (or two) to cast at you. One Hellball would essentially obliterate a Counterspelling Mage, no?
Epic Spells - Epic Spells can counter each other if they are identical. (i.e. Vampiric Feast negates Vampiric Feast and Greater Ruin negates Greater Ruin). Dispels can also counter them. [This option has been disabled until further notice! Epic spells are not counterable currently]
So...the $24,000 question is: does Mastery of Counterspelling work against Epic Spells?Mastery of Counterspelling and Spell Turning - These abilities allow you to turn your defense into your offense. If you succesfully counter an incoming spell you can turn it back upon the caster. This only works with targeted spells though. It does not work with RTAs, AoEs, dispels, or "effect" spells. Still, there are a host of spells which can be very dangerous which can be turned including Bigby's, Flame Arrows, Magic Missiles and Magic Missile Storms.
