Thar'vulan Zau'afin

Unread post by Bubbajoe »

First Name: Thar'vulan
Last Name: Zau'afin

Appearance: Highly scarred, although he often covers his scars by wrapping a grey rag around this head and face. Seems to walk with an arrhythmic limp.
Race: Drow
Age: 150
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 150lbs
Eyes: Violet
Hair: Silver
Facial Hair Style: Only mongrels have facial hair!

Personality Profile: Proud, intelligent, and brooding in equal measure, although his self-imposed exile has unhinged his mind in a number of areas. Often seems to quote books, indicating an atypical education.
General Health: His resilience would indicate that he is quite healthy, although the extensive scarring and his drinking habits should say otherwise.
Deity: Pays homage to most of the Drow deities, although he has a special respect for Ghaunadaur.
Initial Alignment: Neutral Evil
Profession: Sargtlin
Base Class & Proposed Development: Fighter, Frenzied Berserker, Dervish, Weaponmaster
Habits/Hobbies:
- Has been a reader since he was young, and was even writing a book himself before his exile. His favorite subject is the philosophy of warfare, although he reads about many things.
- Since the exile, he has developed an interest in staring contests with basilisks, thinking that there is a type of supreme enlightenment in the practice.
- Also since the exile, he has kept a jar of jelly from gelatinous cubes in his pocket, which he frequently adds to whatever he is drinking at the time.
Languages: Common, Undercommon, Drow, Drowsign, Goblin, Aragrakh
Weapon of Choice: Scythe

Background:
Born to an obscure Qu'ellar in Menzoberranzan, his father and paternal grandfather wizards with the uncharacteristic trait of taking a great interest in their offspring's development. Thar'vulan's father did his best to instill the legend of a shadow-dragon ancestor in him, and did his best to force him into becoming a Faern. When it was evident the young Drow had no talent for magic, he was pushed toward becoming an assassin. Thar'vulan's stealth proved to be disappointing and he was given up on.

Though his failures painted him as a clumsy imbecile, Thar'vulan was neither, and he unified the importance of study with a value for guile and the martial focus of his warrior fate. More than a warrior, he was a tactician, a quality that was immediately recognized by Lomith Zau'afin when he made his way to Sshamath. He was conscripted into Zau'afin, a move which he didn't oppose as he saw the opportunity for advancement. Before long, he had grown in his skills and reputation among his superiors, and with a fight to the death he proved himself worthy of the title "Qu'elsaruk".

A bloody war with Devlin, another noble house, broke out and eventually the halls of Zau'afin were strangely silent. In the absence of his matron, the ever-scheming Qu'elsaruk hurried to install a puppet matron with himself as the true power behind the throne. The very cycle that he had prepared to make the announcement, Lomith returned to claim her throne, punishing the ambitious warrior but seeming proud of his guile. Her return was short-lived, though, and the halls went empty again, and Thar'vulan wandered off into the Underdark.

Roughly a year later, in surface terms, he returned in ragged clothing and terribly scarred, madness gripping his mind. Finding an old ally of his House, he resolved to resurrect the House Zau'afin, with the old goal of surface conquest, but himself on the throne.

Goals:
-Unify the Drow, in purpose even if not under one political entity.
-Build a surface empire to take back what rightfully belongs to the Drow

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
-A male leader of a Lothian house? Sacre-bleu!
-He's crazy because of how often he encountered basilisks and was temporarily eaten by gelatinous cubes.
I used to create flaming edgelords. Hopefully my characters have some depth now.
