How to start the DM Cilent
Firstly, make sure you have the cilent expantion which can be found Here

Then you want to create a shortcut of the NWN2 cilent EXP.
Image

Rename this shortcut to 'DM Cilent' then right click on it and press 'Properties'
Image

A box should appear, in the very top line after the " leave a space and put in a - followed by DMC as shown in the picture below it should like like blah blah blah" -DMC
Image

Press apply then click OK and you are done! To run the cilent just double click on the new shortcut - this will launch the game with the DM cilent. You will notice the first two options are greyed out in the menu, this is normal so don't worry.

The Basics

To start we are going to be using a 'demo' module, find the link Here

Follow the readme file in the document and make sure the file are in the right place (my documents) if you are unable to open the file then you will need WinRar which can be found
Here

Once the module is installed launch the DM cilent (which we set up in part 1) then go to Multiplayer (log in as normal) ---> New Game ----> Next ----> New Module -----> DM 101 For NWN2 and press OK.
Image

If you do not see the DM 101 For NWN2 in the modules list then you have not installed the mod (from above) correctly, make sure the .hak and .Mod file are in the correct places.

Once you are in, select a character (or make a new one) and head into the game; you will notice an interface like this.

All these new icons might look a bit daughting, but it really isn't! I encourage you to play around with all the icons and buttons to get a 'feel' for how things work. Just remember that a lot of these functions require you to 'target' the NPC/Prop first before it works. Many tabs need to be 'expanded' by pressing on it.

Lets go over what all these buttons and icons are!
Image

1) The battle tools - here you can increase, decrease stats and also set the area to hostile or non-hostile (NPCs)

2) Creature Panel - here you can change NPC from hostile/non hostile (single, must be selected), scale creatures/players, rename creatures/players, manage inventry, add/remove languages boot players and identify items.

3) Item menu - Here you can toggle item properties including if it is cursed or stolen. You can also give and take items, make sure you have the item selected before using this option.

4) Placeable Tools - Here you can rename (also works on NPCs) and rotate props/items.

5) DM Creater menu - This is probably what you will be using the most it contains a list of all the items, props and NPCs you can place. To place an item drag it to the hot key bar at the bottom then use it as a 'spell' on the ground, the item/NPC/Weapon will then be spawned where you click. To expand the menu press the little 'cross' next to it.

Image

6) DM Chooser - This tool acts as a long distance 'selector' i.e. if you were not in the same area and wanted to select something in a different area this tool is what you would use it looks something like this.

Image

From here you can 'heal', Kill, rest, make immune to all damage types, warp to that location and put item/NPC/Player into limbu using the icons at the top of the box. Make sure you have the prop/NPC/Player selected in the menu before pressing the icons at the top.

7) Toggles traps on and off....very simple tool.

8) Makes you invisable to players/NPCs

9) Pauses the game

10) Turns free camera on and off

11) VFX tool - Another useful and important tool; here you can add spell effects, particle effects and debuff/buff players a time can also be set on how long the buff lasts. The menu should look something like this:

Image

12) Sound Tool - This tool can be used to add music or sound effects to the area; useful for RP or setting a 'mood' to set music press one of the taps (see shot below) and select from the music list - you can pause the music using the buttons that appear on the top of the bar while the music is playing, it can also be looped or stopped.

Image

13) Is a similar tool to 12 with a different set of sounds.

14) Is a similar tool to 12 and 13 with a different set of sounds to pick from.

15) This is a dice tool that can be used for story sessions or simple RP - it is similar to the player dice system and looks similar to the screenshot below:

Image

16) Voice Entry (Languages) - Works the same as in game, this contains a list of all the languages which can be used in game in the same way as it is in game the menu looks something like this:

Image

and finally....The difficulty slider; which is disabled on the main server and set to 'hardcore' thanks to Maecius for clearing that up :)

NPC possession, the basics

In this guide we will be going over how to take control of a NPC. This can be done in two ways, the first way using the DM Chooser tool (see basics above) or via right clicking on a NPC in veiw and selecting the 'DM creature control' icon as shown below.

Image

A new menu will pop up with three more options press the 'take control' option to take control of that selected NPC. From here you can move around, talk, add/remove items and spells. Should you want to return to your 'main' character simply do the same as before but instead press the 'unpossess creature' as shown in the shot below.

Image

This will place you back into your normal character, it is as simple as that. Now lets look at the other way you can take control of a NPC using the DM chooser tool

A great guide, Lobo! Our server's difficulty slider is disabled (we're permanently set on hardcore D&D rules), and we have a few custom tools; but coming onto the team with a basic understanding of how the vanilla DM Client works is always an advantage to anyone who wants to join the team.
