Even though its a part time position starting, I have finally managed to earn a bank teller job and have gotten my foot in the door in a business that is not retail. Im making more money and will learn actual skills I can apply to other business areas later in my career*Such as sales*
Finally I am out of one of the layers of the Nine Hells, Retail.

Finally out of Retail
Will I find the light. Or be swallowed by Darkness. I sense hope. But foresee harm. Will I know the blade. Taste the blood. I see a figure. I see a shadow...I see myself

After 15 years in Banking I can only tell you that making it out of the 1st layer of hell and in to the 7th maybe is not cause for celebration!Master_Sarevok wrote:Even though its a part time position starting, I have finally managed to earn a bank teller job and have gotten my foot in the door in a business that is not retail. Seriously though, congrats on the position. Banking has many potentially lucrative career opportunities for the budding Sales professional so it's a good path to start on. If you'll accept advice you may want to try to move around to different companies as banks generally do not compensate well when they promote from within... Much more money if your career moves upwards as you jump between banks vs. moving up internally between organizations. The bank I worked for, for instance promoted me 7 times over my 15 years, yet when I finally resigned it was because I was offered a job with a vendor selling banking software with over a 25% increase in base salary and ~50% in annual bonus. Allowing for my wife to stay home with our son and only work part time was really the motivating factor that made me make the plunge, but hindsight being 20/20 I could have made significantly more over the course of my career had I looked for promotion opportunities (or even lateral moves) with other banks to get a larger salary bump.
Not trying to warn you away, as I said, it can be very lucrative and open up a lot of doors in other business later on in your career. Only saying banks are generally not very employee satisfaction focused, thought they make an effort to come off as such. It's important to think about what is best for you and not only what is best for the company.
Best of luck to you!!!

Re: Finally out of Retail
Retail at least provides some great anecdotes. I almost miss the people of Walmart from my 2 year stint there. Ok maybe I don't miss them but rather there antics. Got at least 5 good stories out of that place.

Cheers!

I can say from first hand experience in the industry for 5+ years now as a young adult.. listen to everything Chad just said.. Honestly I've been at the same company for 2 years, then left, then came back 2 years and its been a HUGE blessing. DEFINITELY don't commit to anything over 3 years without sending out resumes every 6 months.
