Thaumaturgist and Warlock?
Quicky question.
Can Warlocks chose (and level spell progression in) the Thaumaturgist prestige class? Since warlocks have "The Dead walk", I was wondering if Thaumaturgist augment the undeads summoned through that spell.

Re: Thaumaturgist and Warlock?
It kind of makes sense to have a warlock with a planer cohort that may oversee their soul until it has been acquired.
I do not think the PrC is open to warlocks, but maybe it should be? Maybe a bard W SS would open it up, but I do not think warlock progression will be available.

Well, that... and i was curious if:
1: The Augment summons affect the undead spawend by "The Dead Walk" and the "Summon Baatezu" from Hellfire Warlock.
2: Given the pre-reqs for the Thama is:

I was wondering if its spell progression was open to warlocks therefore. But can follow your train of thought, I like it!Requirements:
Race: Any
Alignment: Any
Skills: Lore: The Planes 8, Diplomacy 6
Feats: Greater Spell Focus Conjuration

Re: Thaumaturgist and Warlock?
Well, original thaumaturgist required ability to cast lesser planar ally.
And the problem is that thaumaturge abilities affect conjuration school, while warlock inocations do not have schools, and "animate dead" (which is what "dead walk" mimics), is necromancy and not conjuration. So, while a warlock could possibly summon a cohort via scroll, it would never meet requirements.
Looking at thaumaturge featmap *.2da file, it looks like only following classes are SUPPOSED to be supported:
Bard, Cleric, Druid, Paladin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Wizard, Spirit Shaman and Favored Soul.
However, thaumaturge prerequesites are only greater skill focus conjuration, lore and diplomacy. Spell Focus conjuration doesn't seem to be available to warlocks.

It may be worth looking into giving warlocks some similar PrC via kit. This topic is in tips or tricks, so, I might as well make a new thread for OP.

The problem is... warlocks aren't supposed to have summoning spells. Dead Walk is not summoning.Eclypticon wrote:It may be worth looking into giving warlocks some similar PrC via kit. This topic is in tips or tricks, so, I might as well make a new thread for OP.
Warlocks can summon swarms of flies (via Summon Swarm least Invocations).. and they can steal summons from other people via "Steal Summoning" dark invocation. But they don't have any other summoning magic on their own. Or at least, they aren't supposed to have it.
With that in mind thaumaturge doesn't seem to fit the class well.

It might not fit Warlock well, but what about Hellfire Warlock? That particular PRC could be a far better fit for it than just Warlock.

Re: Thaumaturgist and Warlock?
Amusingly, Hellfire Warlock is not supposed to have summoning abilities as well. "Summon Baatezu" is Obsidian's invention and not a good one too (I think it also occasionally summons tan'ari instead of baatezu too).Side wrote:It might not fit Warlock well, but what about Hellfire Warlock? What original PRC could do was infusing magic items with hellfire. That applied metamagic feats to them.
The point of hellfire is that it burns anything. So, there is not much of a thaumaturgist material here.Hellfire Infusion (Su): Starting at 2nd level, you can
infuse magic items that you wield with the power of hellfi re.
Whenever you use a charged magic item (such as a wand
or a staff), you can apply one of the following metamagic
effects to your next use of the item: empower, enlarge,
widen, or energy substitution. These effects work just like
the metamagic feats of the same name (the Energy Substitu-
tion feat is described on page 79 of Complete Arcane). Using
hellfi re infusion is a swift action. You can use this ability a
number of times per day equal to your Charisma modifi er
(minimum one). When you infuse an item with hellfi re,
it glows briefl y with fi ery symbols that are disturbing to
look upon.

Re: Thaumaturgist and Warlock?
That actually sounds somewhat plausible for bgtscc version of frostmage anyway, there are few issues, though. Warlock would only get bonus at hellrime blast and other abilities would be unaffected.... aaand a warlock could pick resistance to fire which would somewhat counterbalance vulnerability to fire. For extra fun once could make hellfire frost warlock.Kanada wrote:If anything, the PRC warlocks should have access to is Frost Mage
Original prc was supposed to get "conjure ice beast" ability, which is "wizardly":
http://alcyius.com/dndtools/classes/fro ... index.html
On bgtscc this ability does not exist, the class is merely transformative, and resembles green star adept or accolyte of the skin. So warlock access sorta fits. Sorta.
