Rest lockdown during events?

Unread post by Storm Munin »

After long thought I believe it is time to consider creating a lockdown mechanism for rest during events (if at all feasable).

A lockdown only the DM can bypass.

Why?
Because for all the years I have played here, and despite DMs setting down the rule of no rest until I say so quite explicitly, there are always the early christmas tree casters buffing everything they got at the start of an event.
Then as that toons spells wear off as time pass by and other spells are depleted, the same toon suddenly due to supposed accidental clicking or supposed failed reading skills just happen to rest and buff up again as the end of the event grow nigh.
Sometimes spells having been changed to fit what is fought.

Thus those casters playing the event fairly and more likely conserving spells for when they actually do matter are at a disadvantage.
But equally, if not more, at disadvantage are the great noncaster toons out there who find themselves more or less pointless in the event due to everything being killed by spell spam/short duration buff melee caster toons on rest overdrive.

What say you all?

Sounds good.

Besides rebuffing in a crowd during the event is a good way to cause massive lag and crash the server.

An easy way to do it would be to spawn invisible unkillable hostile in the area. Basically, put a rat somewhere, make it immortal, paralyzed and ethereal, and nobody will be able to rest around it.

I think it may be possible to do so via zone area, but I'd be against server wide rest shutdowns. If the DM team feels they need this, then I will support them.

The rat idea is actually pretty smart.
