New Staves for submission and review

Unread post by Akroma666 »

Hello guys, working on expanding the loot tables a bit and adding more flavor and customization than standard builds. Here are some proposed suggestions for items for the next shop. Hoping to get some staff recognition to get promoted to work on item content again. Some of my work included: belt of endless possibilities, blackfire warding sash, ring of the warrior, Rings for druid/wiz/cleric, the staves at sorc sundries and much more.

Without further interruptions:
Splinter Thorn Rose
Quarterstaff
Druid/Spirit Shaman Only
Concentration +2
Spellcraft +2
Material: Duskwood
Splinter Bolt (6) / Unlimited uses per day
Hidden: show
Splinter Bolt
Caster Level(s): Druid 2
Innate Level: 2
School: Conjuration
Descriptor(s): Sonic
Component(s): Verbal, Somatic
Range: Medium
Area of Effect / Target: Target Creature
Duration: Instantaneous
Save: None
Spell Resistance: No
You must make a ranged touch attack to hit the target. If you hit, the splinterbolt deals 4d6 points of piercing damage. A splinterbolt threatens a critical hit on a roll of 18-20.
The splinterbolt is treated as a +1 magical weapon for the purposes of overcomming DR.
You can fire one additional splinterbolt for every four levels beyond 3rd (to a maximum of three at 11th level).

"The originator of this staff was said to be a Hierophant from the Chultan jungle. Over time, he grew paranoid with civilizations expansion into his jungles and created these for the warriors and druids under his charge to aid in the battle against deforestation. The original stave was said to have been crafted from the fallen trunk of an ancient Weirwood and infused with the essences of both Jungle Creepers and Vine Mines. As the staff circulated outside of the Hierophant's Circle the recipe for the creation of these weapons became diluted to what you see before you present day. Legends speak of the original staves still in circulation among relic collectors and secretive Druidic Circles awaiting the time to invoke it's power to protect the forest's borders once more."
Aurilite Quill
Quarterstaff
Wizard/Sorcerer Only
Concentration +2
Spellcraft +2
Material: Duskwood
Ice Darts (6) / Unlimited uses per day

A sharp icicle shoots from your fingertip. You may fire on dart, plus one additional dart for every two levels beyond 3rd (to a maximum of nine darts at 19th level). Each dart requires a ranged touch attack to hit and deals 2d4+1 points of damage (1d4+1 of cold and 1d4 of piercing).
NOTE: Icedarts qualifies for a frost mages Piercing Cold ability for the cold damage.
Cinder of Kossuth
Quarterstaff
Wizard/Sorcerer Only
Concentration +2
Spellcraft +2
Material: Duskwood
Aganazaar's Scorcher (6) / Unlimited uses per day
Hidden: show
Aganazaar's Scorcher
Caster Level(s): Wizard / Sorcerer 2
School: Evocation
Descriptor(s):
Component(s): Verbal, Somatic
Range: Long
Area of Effect / Target: Medium
Duration: Instantaneous
Save: Reflex half
Spell Resistance: Yes
A jet of roaring flame bursts from your outstretched hand, scorching any creature in its path. The flames do 1D8 points of fire damage per two levels of the caster, up to a maximum of 10D8 points of damage.
Considering its 1 spell cast per round, its not going to amount to anything game changing to deal 1-30 damage a round on a caster consistently. I was thinking about making these, charging like 75k a pop, and putting them on a merchant.
They would realistically be good till about mid game or for grouping when out of spells. Or conserving spells.

I welcome feedback on the items themselves!

Nice staves! AT would have fun with a couple of them. Not really powerful spells but when you can add sneak dice to them......

You can only add sneak dice to cast spells or selected reserve spell feats. AT cannot add sneak dice to wands, scrolls or other spells cast from an item.

Love it. Possible to improve as you level and weaker at 1? Can see these being beasts till level 15 atleast

Won't they also make the meta feat cast a spell 30 sec redundant?

Honestly I could see these replacing the current low level set of rather disappointing staves already available at merchants.

I'm looking at you, staff of defense...

New staves, huh?

*puts on his broken record*

Small sized staves, anyone? The server has been around for X amount of years and hins and gnomes still have zero to choose from. *wink, nudge, slap, punch*
There are no level 30's, only level 20's with benefits...

I would be ok with these, but would personally want to see other items, such as scrolls for new spells (if possible), maybe some stronger potions such as IMA and spiderskin, and maybe some robes and other items to fit with the staff's. New items should have a theme with lore behind them. Perhaps a gnome wizard/alchemist or whatever from Lantan...

I could do an alchemist themed based shop. This is my first pass at a suggestion. I still do not have access to Dev tools and this is unfortunately just a first pass of text item suggestions for someone else to build and develop on.

How about something like this? I am typing from my iphone but can get more detailed once I get home:

"The originator of this staff was said to be a Hierophant from the Chultan jungle. Maxwell has a few feats for enchanting weapons. He may have been RPed as a Smith/enchanter for several years.

Otherwise we could simply create an event line that involves a wizard who eventually produces staves.

Technically we have nothing but small staves as a quarterstaff is a full size staff cut down to a smaller size for the express purpose of weaponizing it. Now if you mean you want a staff marked as "small" so you can use the weapon finesse feat with it. . . that is a different story.
