I'm thinking about alternatives to Eldritch Doom.
It is an amazing invocation that is perfect for crowd control.
The problem is, BGTSCC doesn't have crowds, saves are inflated, pretty much everything has evasion meaning that with dc of 23 (because bugs) almost all enemies will dodge it.
Does anyone know a good replacement? From the invocations I saw, Lure Shadow demons and Otherwordly Leap looked interesting, but aside from them there's not much worth picking (and I already have all the necessary defensive invocations).

You know that repelling blast/undead blast is superior in most ways to Doom?
No save, always full damage, same range, lower level. You've to hit with an RTA, sure, but that's a small cost to pay compared to Doom.

Repelling blast is cenetered around your char, though. Doom can be aimed anywhere and it ccan be enhanced with essences.Karond wrote:You know that repelling blast/undead blast is superior in most ways to Doom?

I already have repelling blast, though.
I'm just thinking about swapping Doom away, and not sure what could be worth picking instead of it.

I stopped using it years ago on my warlock builds. I have always gone with eldritch chain instead. I'd like to see the bugs in warlocks get fixed though (we have been saying this since the beginning but we have come pretty far).

Eldritch chain is Lesser (I also have it).Eclypticon wrote:I stopped using it years ago on my warlock builds. I have always gone with eldritch chain instead. I'd like to see the bugs in warlocks get fixed though (we have been saying this since the beginning but we have come pretty far).
Doom is Dark.
All invocations on my character are useful, with exception of Doom which ends up being underutilized. I could pick up Word of Changing for fun instead, but doesn't fit the character. Remaining candidates are binding blast (will save-based stun is arguably more useful), otherwordly leap, summon shadow demons.... and I think that's it. Maybe Utterdark (more for flavor).
The issue is that leap seems to be highly situational and I've not seen it in action. Shadow demons seems to be shifting alignment (afaik), which may be a problem, affects party xp, aand shadow demons described stats don't look too great. Utterdark doesn't stack with itself (for obvious reasons), but might be interesting either way.

Otherwordly leap is a much worse version of the monks ki-step. It has a cooldown and a rather limited range. Still it is quite fun to use and can be nice to have in some areas to jump over gaps.
Dark invocations are really only good for defensive purposes, unfortunatly.

Thanks for the infoNemni wrote:Otherwordly leap is a much worse version of the monks ki-step. It has a cooldown and a rather limited range. Still it is quite fun to use and can be nice to have in some areas to jump over gaps.
Well, that's unfortunate.Nemni wrote: Dark invocations are really only good for defensive purposes, unfortunatly.
Did anyone experiment with shadow demons? Aside from them counting towards party cap and eating xp, I think someone liked them? (was that V'rass?)

Re: Eldritch Doom alternatives
I use it and find the negative energy dmg useful since untill now i still haven't found any enemy immune or with some resistance to it ... the fact that do not stacks is a minus that really underpowered it quite a lot considering that is a dark invocation ( !!!! )....NegInfinity wrote: Utterdark doesn't stack with itself (for obvious reasons), but might be interesting either way.
some time ago i suggested a change in that lowering its level drain by 1 level (instead of 2) but allowing to stack up to
1 every 8 warlock levels ( so up to 3 levels )
or
1 every 7 warlock levels ( up to 4 )
or
1 every 6 warlock levels ( up to 5 )
but i suppose this suggestion didn't find love on "the other side"
