Rumors have circulated for a while that an upstart guild is seeking arcanists to join their ranks. For that time, people have been seen approaching the Elven mage Sirion, in response to his call for mages to join in the efforts to establish the guild he envisions, and many ideas have been spoken. But only a few things seem to be set in stone; something soon to change.

Messages once again reach those known to have an interest in this project. In the eve of the 29th of Marpenoth, a first gathering is to take place, the exact time and a place disclosed to those invited. Various topics to be considered in advance and voted for when the time comes.

Rykian sat alone in his rented room of the Friendly Arm Inn. The light from a candle casting a soft glow throughout the room. Unfurled on the desk in front of him is the correspondence from Lord Mage Sirion.

The initial meeting went well in his eyes so he said a quiet thanks to the Goddess that he received this letter. He took it as a sign that this moment was where he was meant to be.

But the inquiries contained within could not be answered so hastily and he would rather provide a quality response than a rushed one. So he attended to his prayers for the rest of the night as inspiration would come through it.

It would be made known to those who were invited to the meeting of mages, and those who showed up anyway, that because of The Sudden and Inexplicable Incident™, the meeting was shortened and another was planned for in seven days time.

(( If anyone's wondering, that means it didn't happen because the server wasn't up at the time. Still mails have been sent about some things, and I hope anyone wanting to influence things will take the time to make a reply :))

Rykian tucked the newest missive he received from Lord Mage Sirion neatly into his pack. He sighed to himself then quietly made his way out of his room and through the common area of the Friendly Arm Inn. The gnome was both relieved and annoyed-annoyed because the meeting was postponed due to some foul entity, and relieved because it allowed him more time to test a few new spells he acquired from the fat auctioneer within the Inn's walls.

Whistling a cheery tune, he made his way into the Wood of Sharp Teeth, looking for a target, err, volunteer.

Over the course of numerous candle wicks, Rykian personally penned numerous letters, each destined to be delivered to a list of names given to him by Sirion. Like any good gnome, he took his role rather seriously and ensured every piece of correspondence was flawless and clear.

When the messengers arrived courtesy of Bentley, he handed each of them a letter to be delivered only to the name listed. He offered each messenger a hefty amount of gold for their services, and also gave each a stern 'Don't mess this up' glare before they left to carry out their business.

As the last messenger departed, he flexed his fingers, stretching them and relaxed for the rest of the night. He realized much work lay ahead but chuckled in the humor of Bentley making quite a hefty sum from him renting a room for the next few weeks ahead.

Natalya waited for the messenger boy to leave before using a cantrip to have the door closed behind him. Minutes later she had changed dress and left the room herself after resetting the wards protecting it.

The remaining pieces of shredded parchment still glowed red in the fireplace.

In the mid day sun outside of Bentley's Inn, the one named Sirion could be seen speaking to a short little figure of a gnome. They spoke for some time with topics ranging from scroll scribing to devils to demons. When the gnome left the campfire he seemed pleased with his next course of action towards the future Gathering.

The second first meeting is postponed to make way for a third first meeting due to The Sudden and Inexplicable Incident™ dragging on. However, those who may have attended would receive a letter with announcements and the current state of things. It would be made known that Sirion is determined to eventually have a first meeting, be it the tenth, hundredth or thousandth attempt, and that when that first meeting comes to pass, it will be open to all who are interested, that first time.

(( Yep, DoS and things. This will be the third time we schedule a first meeting, and we have become exceedingly efficient at it. However, I think we might wait till the attacks wear off. I'll get back to writing the mass mail once I'm done playing BG1 EE with Ravial and Tantive :D Will send it tonight, promise! ))

A letter arrives for Sirion Te'Dwa, bearing a blue wax seal that has been pressed with Sehanine's holy symbol, which has Mystra's holy symbol in the place of the Sehanite moon. The star itself is again inset with two Espruar letters, A.A.

In the dim mage glow within a long abandoned arcane tower, Mystra smiled upon the spell exchange between the Magi collected. Led by Arch Magus Sirion, Magus Friggo and Adept Rykian sat for a while, pouring over their individual grimoire's comparing and learning technique, inflection and symbol. New spells were shared and the Weave hummed happily this night.

If a deeper look is made within the tower, the magi may see traces of recent use. Fresh ash, footprints in the dust, and other traces of use may be found therein.

It is made known that a third first meeting will be attempted two days hence, in the 20th hour of the day. It will be open to for all who are interested to attent.

Within the dim light of the conference room of Bentley's Inn, the first gathering of Magi convened. After numerous weeks of correspondence, much relief and eagerness could be seen around the room as details concerning the society became written guidelines, introductions between strangers became the groundwork for guild mates, and future goals became a unified vision. Drinks and conversation flowed during the wee hours of the night as topics of research specialties aired itself, with every gathered member speaking to their own, gaining questions of interest and plans for future experimentation were laid.

The gathering concluded with a scouting expedition of locations for future....use. The five Magi warded themselves in the Art as Arch Magus Sirion transported the group to the region known as Uldoon's Trail. Walking casually throughout the night, they easily fought monstrous bandits without blinking an eye to come upon their first site.

With rich potential, they discussed at great length the location's probability and possibility, design, defense and wards. When the Magi seemed content, at least for now, they each began their tests to prove their eligibility. The Enchantress Rake known as Natalya cast a mind altering spell which easily gripped the mental faculties of the mysterious Gray. She laughed as she watched Gray uncontrollably attack another Magus but quickly Disjuncted her own spell before anyone was hurt. Next to demonstrate prowess was the Abjurer, Rykian. Showing flexibility with his dweomers, he called forth an earthen wall to showcase one avenue of defending the area and then cast a weaving he was quite proud of. The highlight so far of his journey here to the Sword Coast: one of Bigby's little known and lesser tiered spells calling forth a fencer made possible through force magic. The ever mysterious Gray proved herself in a similar fashion. Showing able deftness with illusion, she created a shadowed figure of herself, so lifelike but not quite so.

The gathering concluded as Selune smiled brightly above with each Magi having a goal of research planned.

The Gnomanuensis could be seen pouring over tome after book after scroll of lore he was able to get his stubby little hands on over the last tenday. Since the last gathering, a topic of interest came up, one which particularly intrigued him. He was new to this region so any opportunity that would help him learn more, he took to it easily. This bit of research involved Uldoon's Trail, and something he found could be of interest to the Guild of Magi. He penned late into the candle burn, determined to be ready for the next Gathering.
