How to deal with alignment shift from invocations

Unread post by pwdcrk1 »

Hi,
i have a question, i play a legal evil drow warlock and i act accordingly to my char sheet but i'm using recently the "lure shadow deamon" invocation ( 'cause i pretty a good one ) the problem is that that invocation shift the alignment towards the chaotic evil ( and ok is not that dramatic ) ... so the problem is i can live with it even if i don't like the chaotic alignment ( too much closed choices in many situations ) but i would prefer to play my original planned char .... the alignment shift is a feature or a bug ? will i be obliged to play a chaotic char even if in every other aspect my char haven't never done anything chaotic or i can ignore the alignment shift ?

mhew is quite a mess since the invocation is pretty a good one ( and there are not so many good ones invocation on warlock list ) ...

any suggestion ? maybe a staff guess ?

cheers

According to the wiki, it's an intended feature of the invocation.

http://bgtscc.wikia.com/wiki/Lure_Shadow_Demons

Looking from the calculations in the script I think it's probably happening a little too often and a little too much, so I made an adjustment to it so that it will happen less frequently (1/20 chance instead of 1/12) and it will only adjust the alignment by 1 point (instead of 1d3). This would go into effect after the next reset.

You'll have to use it a bit sparingly if you never want your alignment to shift, or perhaps you can show the DMs evidence of lawful roleplay and ask for small shifts to balance out the alignment adjustment over time.

ok

so that means that i'm not "forced" to act in a chaos manner overtime just because my alignment has been shifted from legal evil to chaotic evil ? (great)

mechanically speaking i have no issue in being chaotic rather than legal my concerns were more on an everyday rp situation behavior .

... wait.

Do If I made a paladin/warlock... I could (granted illigallly so) abuse shadow demons to add black guard to that build?

Edit.
Never mind. Spell progression first allows you to get Dark evocations at level 16. Meaning you can't fit 6 levels of paladin and black guard in before you can start manipulating your alignment.

Usually the way to avoid alignment shift is not to avoid it but to manage it. In pnp at least every good, evil, lawful, chaotic act you do shifts your alignment one way or the other so those who play true neutral characters can use any and all spells and as long as they balance their acts by performing good acts to counter/make up for the evil ones they can remain true neutral and still use evil spells. Its cheesy but it works and in pnp at least it is entirely legal.

You can do it with wizard or sorcerer, though! Paladin/(Wiz/Sorc)/Blackguard (when alignment shifts enough)
